Hi guys,
I'm helping my friend build a new computer. He has one of those old dell dimension computers from like 2004. Here's what I have so far:
Elite 341 45
Spinpoint f3 1tb 65
5770 1gb 130
Antec Earthwatts 500w 60
g.skill 4gb 50
i5 2500 210
asus p8p67-m 130

I'm at around 690, and I wanted to build him a comp with a mid to high end cpu, and everything else can be moved around if it fits in budget. matx form factor.

I was thinking either the i5, or an amd chip. is the 955 a good price/performance chip?

If I change out the mobo and cpu, I have this:
amd 965 140
Biostar ta880gb+ 75
Total goes from 690 in the previous build, to 565. That'd give my friend another 35 dollars to go towards the video card.
I was hoping to find a video card on sale, but am not seeing any atm.

Take away the 5770 and that drops you to $435 dollers.

Now put a half decent GPU in there say a GTX 460, 560 Maybe?

If it bottle necks, just O/C the GPU. It shouldnt do, though.

the lowest price I'm seeing on newegg is 190 for the non-se version.

Interesting. I was thinking of selling my matx (sig rig) for only slightly higher than your budget without the SSD. Debating...

Here's my updated list. Please nitpick as much as possible, as this'll help my friend in the end:
6850 175
Earthwatts 380w 40
ASRock m3a770de 60
Xigmatek Asgard II 30
Sony Dvd Drive 22
amd 955 140
g.skill 4gb 40

That brings the total to 507. There is no hard drive included. I'll find out today if he has a spare drive we can repurpose. Also, the x4 955 and x4 965 are the same price. Which one should I choose for him? No plans to overclock.
