You may want to work on an OC of the system you have now. Than you will be ready for that new system. The Q6600 is a good place to start and fairly easy to get to 3.0 or better.

Read these posts and start asking questions everyone here will be ready to help if you get stuck.

you asked earlier about what motherboard to get to go with a 2500k or the 2600k... currently the best motherboards on the market fro them are the p67 series, if im not mistaken

as other have said before me. Do not get alien ware. It is a total waste of money. I would say that if you have the money, it is time for an upgrade (though im not one to talk considering my processor is over 2 years older than yours ). just keep in mind that if you upgrade the processor to anything higher than an q9650, you will need an new mother board and ram. also, considering you will need a new motherboard even if you do go with the q9650, i would just go for one of the sandy bridge processors.

Well When I had an i5 655k with my 460, I ran 3dMark Vantage at stock than again at 4.5 and my score had a significant difference. So I'd say there is a good chance.
