Super low budget girlfriend rig?

Thread Starter
My girlfriend wants a computer. It took me so much effort change her mind about getting a Mac.

The problem is, the budget is £400. Excluding Monitor,Speakers,KB/Mouse.

It must be able to:

Play Sims3.
Good enough to last through 4 University years.
DVD's

It must also be as small as possible, and be as quiet as possible.
No wireless internet is needed

Things needed:

Windows - 64bit Home Prem £71
RAM - 4gb DDR3 £30
Processor -
Motherboard -
Case -
GPU - Nvidia 8400GS - free off me I found - but what can it handle?
PSU - Doesn't need to be high wattage just quality and silentish.
Hard drive - What about a budget SSD? She doesn't download anything at all. And I'd probably buy her a data drive anyway

I really need help. It is going to have to be either ITX or mATX.

I want to upgrade to Sandy Bridge... but is it really ethical to charge my girlfriend for my motherboard/cpu/case/psu?

What would you charge for them parts in my sig rig?
(Given that you don't have much money and would like to get a SB CPU/Mobo out of it.)

Would it just be better for her to get a brand new CPU/Motherboard for cheaper?

Do you think it would be possible to get the SG05 silent? (new cpu cooler i think..)

look like she will need an AMD quad core rig. Athlon ii x4 640 is very good and has a very low heat. She'll be able to multitask like crazy with the quad core.

EDIT: I should have read more carefully. You could sell her your rig, but at a heavily discounted price. I would figure what the SB mobo cpu and memory would cost, and consider the price from there. I don't think it is unethical, as long as you cut her a good deal.

Might want to consider a 2500k on a H67 board. The integrated graphics are really quite good. I built my parents a small mATX 2500k on the H67 chipset, and it does very well. The k models have 12 execution threads, vs the 6 that normal chips have, so you get a bit better performance.

Have you looked at the Silverstone SG05 for your case? It would give you the option of a graphics card later if she needs it.

AMD is real nice and cheap.. that 640 looks better than my i3 530.

the 2500k's would be overkill though, even for me when i get to SB its going to be low end.

and the whole SSD thing is that...well she has a computer and laptops... then she comes to mine and it boots in 18 seconds instead of 18 minutes. Hands down i think an SSD is the best investment anyone can buy for their computer.

I'm going to come back tomorrow and have a look and finalise a build

edit; monkey, is that coolermaster silent pro, silent?
