PSU for 580 sli - Page 2

post #11 of 21
I have an Antec Signature 850 watt PSU and it was running my rig just fine but I am using it for my new folding rig now. An 850 watt PSU would do just fine for you with some extra head room.

^exactly this.

the 850 will give you more headroom...a quality 750 will be fine as well, but you can push higher OC's with the 850.

if someone can on mercadolibre.com.ar there u can search for psu in my country

but a 850w psu, is it enough for 2 gtx 580, and my i7 with OC ? coolers, h50, 1 hdd 1 ssd...
I will say 750W is enough if you don't OC anything at all.
850W is fine if you are not pulling crazy OC on the GPU and some decent OC on the CPU (1.3V or lower), but it's getting close.

An AX850 or TX850 V2 will do the trick while the AX will do more than 850W (Close to 900W) if you need it to.

my real question is
cooler master silent pro 1000w = U$S 315
satellite SL-X1000EPS 1000w = U$S 170

i just really want to know if that satellite es enough or is it good for keeping theses 2 cards on sli and perhaps a little OC for the i7, just that... cause its a huge difference in prices between the satellite and the cooler master...
i saw a review and its not bad..

Wow n00bs lol, ok leave it to me the electrical engineer to do the maths i guess.

OC'd cpu around 150W
2 gtx580's @280W max load each so = 560W
random case fans and stuff around 30W

So total psu wattage you need is around 750 with around 600W of that been on the 12V+ rails

2 GTX580's @ 280W= 560W
Power= Voltage x Current
Current= Power / Voltage
Current= 560 / 12= 46.6A <---you need a psu with atleast 48A on a single 12V+ rail or a psu with two 25A 12V+ rails.

That will be what makes you choose the psu.

Personaly i would aim for a 900-1000W power supply to get best efficiency.

I read the specs of the satellite SL-X1000EPS 1000w here and yes it can power that setup, providing you connect 2x6pins and 2x8pins to the 4 rails populating them all (im just saying dont get any branch connectors such as a (6+2)+6pin and just plug them all into 1 card)

Also strange i looked at it on this site and it does not come with any PCIe connectors?
http://www.satellite-computer.com/pr...id=SL-X1000EPS
So im guessing you have to buy them?? modualar? weird lol.

EDIT: after looking at it more on the site i say dont get it, it only has a 12V 4pin connection for cpu im sure you will need a 8pin EPS, that is one nasty power supply lol

Get the Cooler Master will power it easy, a 80A single 12V rail is awesome.

Its usually recommended on this site to have a good 850w psu for SLI-gtx580 . I personally would grab a good 1000w.

yes i read about 850w psu that they are enough for an sli 580, but my idea was to get that satellite.. first of all its very cheap, and the cooler master is more expensive...
if u say that with the satellite i will be fine ill grab that one, its cheaper its 1000w, and has enough amps... even that, i read that it supports a core i7 980 and a tri 4870..

Don't.
Save yourself the trouble, the weeping later.
Get a good decent PSU from a good mater.
