Please help, having problem with overclocking sandy bridge and low gflop - Page 2

If you arent going over 45 c gaming its probably fairly safe. I personally wouldnt go over 1.45 volts even with water cooling though, maybe more if I was using water chillers.

i'll probably go over that since i am idling in the high 30s. Man i have been googling the crap out of safe 24/7 vcore for 2600k and no one agrees

Your idle temp shouldnt be much more than ambient regardless of voltage or speed. If your idling in high thirties with water something is wrong or your room is 32c+

Make sure speedstep is on and use offset voltage. Idling 1.4+ all day 24/7 is bad for sure, you should be idle 1.2 with 1.51 offset voltage.

I personally wouldnt use idle voltage any higher than 1.35

it's because gigabyte boards give you a static overclock. My sb doesn't fluctuate between 1500 to 5100 if C1E is off. it stays at 5100 at all times.. that's why my idle temps are a bit higher than normal... load are very good though so i am still wondering if 1.51vcore is ok for 24/7 since my highest temp was 64C

No one is absolutely certain of what the safe vcore is for the new sandybridge chips. What I can tell you is that many say the max safe vcore for these chips are 1.38, however, intel states that the max 'VID' is 1.52 and many say thataround 1.45 should be the max if your running water cooling. personally I will not go above 1.5v for 24/7 with these chip but it is totally upto you. The main thing to understand is that 'you' have to come with the conclusion of what the max is. That way no one is blamed if the chip degrades (none reported so far, even with 'our' so called high vcore) but it is safe to say that yours will degrade faster than mine , so again its YOUR decision.

here is the original thread: http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...52v-sandy.html (a little outdated)

I would advise you to go down to the 1.45 area (as your on water) and see what overclock you can get with that. Please remeber that not all chips are the same, some can do high overclocks with low voltage some cannot as you can see in this this thread and many others.

Its a long thread but try and read all of it, hope it helps you make a decision

Hope that helps

EDIT: Check your PM for IBT with AVX.
