Sandy Bridge -BSOD - Help Please

post #1 of 19
Thread Starter
So I've been having very recurring BSODs. It happened twice in a row 3 weeks ago, and then everything was fine (I flashed the Bios). Just today, I had 4 in a row (2 min intervals, barely enough time to load up Firefox).

Anyway, this is pretty weird, considering my Bios is updated to last version, all my parts have great temps, no dust, basically everything looks fine to me.

I have the error codes, but I'm not sure if there's any information in them that I should keep private.

*edit*: Please note that I currently removed my OC and reverted to stock settings. I ran a prime95 stress test and got CPU max T to be 48 celsius, at 1.178 volts (And 3.4ghz obv). My ripjaws are 1333mhz if that is of any interest.

(Also, unrelated question, can a Windows 7 32bit key (Non-OEM) be used with a 64-bit Windows 7 OEM disc? Both are Home edition)

So what's the first step?

Thanks for any help, +rep to all helpers

wth?? the BSOD error codes would help a lot. And no one can hack you with them. But BSOD normally has something to do with something being unstable, if thats the cpu, motherboard, gpu, ram, harddrives, even just damaged files in the OS. But the error codes help with finding the issue. Also, last thing you want to do when you get BSODs is flash your bios, thats stupid, all it would take is a crash during thd flash and there goes the board

Update:

I just had another BSOD, here's exactly what happened.

Right after I posted the post above, I tried opening a .exe, it gave me an error, and I thought it was just the program.

Then MSI afterburner got an error, with a string and something related to memory.

Right after (Before I could take a screenshot), BSOD.

It can be helpful at times,, especially if it's a know one that is easy to diagnose.

Here are the main ones people run into, if you see one of these you can adjust accordingly
BSOD Error codes and what they mean:
0X00000050 << Incorrect Memory Timing/Freq or Uncore Multi
0X00000124 << Incorrect QPI/Vtt Voltage (To Much/Not Enough)
0X00000101 << Not enough Vcore Voltage
0X00000109 << Not enough or too Much memory voltage

Crashing while the internet is in use could be any random thing caused by a flash add or something like that, be sure your adobe flash and shockwave players are up to date.

My first crash this evening was when I was playing Battlefield 2. The only thing running in the background (Except logitech mouse, brother software etc..) was my exe (Just a compiled script in exe form), msi afterburner, and bf2 itself.

I also had a BSOD when loading up windows (Login screen). Something weird is up I suspect. Plus, I don't have any tweaks to voltage or any multipliers right now. But +1

I should also note that this is my 5th BSOD of the evening (4 hours of computer use).

It seems that there is a range of different types of errors, I can't make much sense of these, except for the fact that something is corrupt.

Thanks again!

I actually gave that who crashed program to this other guy, but he couldn't install it because it said it wasn't compatible with win 7. Seems you got it to work on win 7, weird. Anyways i can't make sense out of the results not good in that department. But it seems like a driver issue or something, i could be wrong so discard my ignorance.

BSOD Codes for SandyBridge
0x124 = add/remove vcore or QPI/VTT voltage (usually Vcore, once it was QPI/VTT)
0x101 = add more vcore
0x50 = RAM timings/Frequency add DDR3 voltage or add QPI/VTT
0x1E = add more vcore
0x3B = add more vcore
0xD1 = add QPI/VTT voltage
“0x9C = QPI/VTT most likely, but increasing vcore has helped in some instances”
0X109 = add DDR3 voltage
0x0A = add QPI/VTT voltage
