Experience With Virgin Mobile?

Thread Starter
My wife and I have T-mobile (also known as AT&T). We are not on the same contract though and mine is up at the end of June. I am thinking of going Virgin Mobile. I am used to and like very fast phones. I had the G1 and moved to the Vibrant and with some custom ROMs, the thing flies. I've been looking forward to some dual core hotness in the next few months, but T-mobile has raped my ideas and now I have to figure out a new plan.

So I saw Virgin Mobile. I live in MN and the coverage seems very good. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they reliable? Are their phones terrible? Is the unlimited 3G fast?

Is having a slower android phone worth not paying $150 a month for AT&T or Verizon?

Thanks

IIRC they run off of sprints network, which means its pretty good 3g. Also, they do have some decent phones like the intercept which can be sped up with some root access.

There have been some data issues but they seem to be getting fixed slowly, I personally get great coverage and 3g speed in Minneapolis. During peak hours I get 500-1000kbps and off hours it can get as high as 2400kbps. It does drop occasionally between 5-10pm but normally only for a minute or two.

Also for the price the Optimus V is a great phone, it can do most everything without lag aside from certain games. Especially after being overclocked, many people can reach 800mhz(I personally can only get 729mhz but it still runs everything I do without any real noticeable hiccups.) Plus there are several custom roms for 2.3 which are very well done, MMS doesn't work on them but that is an issue on VM's side and not sure when if ever that will be fixed.

All in all, for 25 dollars it's hard to not like it. Even if data can be finicky at times I'm paying less than pretty much every contracts data alone.
