Board Compatibility Help

Thread Starter
Hello All,

I currently have this board its an Asus m3n78-vm:

http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_I...specifications

Is great but need a new board because a kind sir said that my current cpu the AMD Athlon II x2 215:

http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...f10=&f11=&f12=

is capable of being unlocked to a quad core from its current dual core state. Not that i don't believe him, but i have never heard of this and tried to do some research and couldn't find anything on it so maybe another expert could back him up? And he said if i get a board with a sb750 chipset or higher it would have the unlocking feature. So all i have to do is find a board that is capable of doing this and is compatible with my cpu.

So i was looking at this board it says it is a sb750 but im not entirely 100% sure if it is compatible:

http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_I...WHm&templete=2

So confirmation on that too would help! Plus your thoughts on this board would help too!

Thanks
Customx3

Athlon II X2s are native duallies, only the Phenom II X2s can be unlocked. Keep your money.

"First we would like to remind you that the idea of unlocking blocked cores is only valid for Phenom II X2 CPUs. Its younger brother, Athlon II X2, is based on a dual-core die right from the start and there is nothing to unlock there."

However! You could get a Phenom II X2 555, that mobo, and unlock to an X4. No guarantee, but you could get an X3. Even if it doesn't unlock at all, it will still be faster than your Athlon.
