help with screwed up vista

Thread Starter
Long story short, I have a dumb friend who somehow mangled the Vista install on his laptop. No joke, his IQ is down near like 60 so he can't really explain anything about how it happened. He said he tried to reinstall vista and it "didn't work". Essentially, every time his laptop boots it goes straight to cmd and if I click out of it it reboots the computer. any idea how this can be resolved?

yeah i guess that would probably be the way to go, just wanted to make sure there wasn't something easier I could do before I did a clean reformat

Could try to repair it or roll back to a previous version if he has a backup.

just throw in the vista DVD and then follow the instructions.
