Is 4GB of ram becoming not enough? - Page 4

But if you play an RTS game you will use more than 3gb just for the game. Maybe you don't but I play civilization V from time to time and it uses around 3 to 4gb for me.

And don't get too happy with xp, you have 2yrs left until it's no longer supported and less than that if you count anymore IE or other windows programs.

Most games are not large address aware so you do not "need" more than 4GB.

It's getting to that point though for some games. I remember the crashes The Sims 3 would have for some people, and some made it large address aware with a program which fixed it, so EA rolled it into the official release to make it so.

Umm 4GB RAM stopped being enough for me a year ago.
Couldn't run WoW maxed with a couple Chrome tabs and a music player...was cutting it close or going over.

I consider 6144MB to be just enough for my needs, because like with many PC components that deal with storage its always good to have more then enough headroom.

I had the same issue with 4gb, but since RAM prices have dropped significantly, I upgraded to 8gb DDR3 1600, and it runs fine now.

well if you were running out of ram you would know about it pretty fast with lag.

but you have a SSD so the effects would not be as bad as someone with a HDD.

i have 8 because i render video.

Exactly! I just switched my OS to my new SSD and turned the paging to my other drive(HDD). So, StarCraft II crashing is a daily occurrence for me. Just wanted to see if a couple more sticks would solve that problem.

I switched from 4gb with a page to 8gb without a page and It made a huge difference with my system. I just use really ram intensive apps and my computer has a lot of stuff open all the time. My normal processes is about 100.

I use to max out my 4gb even with a page file, now I don't max out my 8gb without a page unless I open my VM that has 3gb dedicated to it.
