I'm sure many people have had this issue in the past. Ive only recently had this problem until today. What can I do to fix it? I am running a x64 bit operating system for one.

Yes, and through BIOS post. CPU-z acknowledges the 4GB of RAM but Windows only shows 3Gb's usable.

You have 4GB, all of which is being used, just your OS is being selfish so to speak and taking X amount for itself, which is not a bad thing.

But if you want to get it back, here's how.

If you open your msconfig by going to Start and typing 'msconfig' and go to the boot tab and then click the Advanced Options button, from there you can set the amount of RAM your OS will take for itself, if 'Maximum Memory' is unchecked then it will display all of your RAM as usable and the OS will just use what it needs from the total amount of RAM you have.

You are running 64bit Win7 right? Did you take you processor out recently?

Go to run prompt, enter "msconfig" with no quotes. Go to the boot tab and select Advanced options... Make sure the amount of memory is not being limited.

Other than that, it's probably either incorrect CPU VTT (or QPI/DRAM depending on bios terminology) or something wrong with the pins in the CPU socket. A full guide can be found here: http://i4memory.com/ramdetect

The pins on my socket caused my issue, but the OP is not missing half the memory and the Bios sees the full size.

I had the Maximum Memory thing checked in msconfig for some reason, unchecked it and it solved the problem.
