At what point will a 965 limit gaming?

I have an AMD Phenom II X4 965 processor. I've been looking into buying a radeon hd 6990. Would my processor limit the FPS I get in games? If not, at what point in the future of video cards do you think it would end up limiting my system?

Yes it will.

At 4ghz+ it will be not a massive bottleneck.

K10 bottlenecks at 3ghz around 5870 speeds.
4ghz will bottleneck around 6990

How limiting do you think it will be? I haven't overclocked it as of yet, I don't have any cooling for my cpu though besides the fan that comes with it and the fans in my case, so I'm not sure what I could get it to. Would it be a bad idea to get a 6990 without upgrading my CPU?

You got that backwards. The higher the resolution the less important cpu is.

Honestly at most gamer's resolutions of 1680x1050-1920x1080 you'll be fine for the next three years.

yah,it will be a bad idea,I suggest u to wait for bulldozer, they'll be awsome,if u cant afford bulldozer get a phenomII x6 1090t/1100t & buy a good cpu cooler like Noctura NH D14,
but make sure that your mobo has enough power phase to run a x6 cpu.
Hope this helps

It will bottleneck the 6990 pretty bad, especially in the minimum FPS area.

So at 1920x1200, what kind of video card setup would my processor be equivalent to? Meaning something that would be on the edge of being bottlenecked by my cpu.

Really? I don't know what to think now I'm getting mixed answers. I really don't wanna buy a video card and find out I have to buy a new processor aswell .
