MX Browns actually do turn linear!!

Thread Starter
Just wanted to put this out there... the browns on my Das S went all MX Red-wannabe on me real fast... and I like it! Oh, and I've only had this bad boy for about a month.

The tactility is little irregular right now since I jam on some keys way more often then others, but I feel like MX browns will actually age quite well. cool.gif

You must have some seriously strong fingers if you can turn browns into reds in 1month
post #3 of 21
Yeah I've had two different brown boards for extended periods of time and none of them "went all MX red-wannabe".

The OP is probably just experiencing keyboard break-in.

my thoughts exactly, he's probably just getting used to the bumps and "tuning them out" more than he's actually worn them down

MX Browns definitely wear down in the first month, as do MX Blues.

I thought the same thing about adjustment when I got my RK-9000, but I then got a Blackwidow- much harder to press. OK, it's psychological, or maybe differences in construction...nope, that wore down too. They felt very different, but now feel similar in the amount of force required.

My two cents. I also just got my MX Brown Filco back from EK (unfortunately it was sent to my old address, where my family is keeping it safe until I can pick it up), so we'll see. I have a heavily used Tactile Touch here as well, so I'll be able to directly compare soon enough with boards with the same keycaps and everything. I think they do break in.

That said I don't think the bump disappears. It just lessens.

They're still tactile, just not to the same degree. The bump was absurd when I initially got both boards, now it's pronounced but not ridiculous.

I've used four different MX brown boards over the past couple years, all but one of them still retain a great deal of tactility, and the one that was worn had been used for years. The tactility does change during the first month of use when the board is new, but it definitely takes years to turn linear. My Compaq MX-11800, which was maybe 90% linear, was at least 5 years old.

MX brown boards I've used:

Compaq MX-11800
Cherry G80-8200
Cherry G80-62410
XArmor U9 prototype
