[HWC][Nvidia] Nvidia's response to GTX 590's frying - Page 13

This card blows and I own an SLI setup. Much like the 570s blew. This 5xx generation has kind of been a washout with the number of problems it has had and the easy ability to unlock the 6950s.

In a side note, how can a card be "fastest/faster", if it doesn't win 100% of the tests? I'm not in to flame (to much?) but saying one card is fastest/faster than the next would mean that it doesn't lose, ever.

But maybe that's just me. I see, that both cards are 50/50 on games (depending on which you play). But, weeeeeeeeee!
IIRC all the 590 tests benefit from CUDA-driven DX11 tesselation, and/or better Nvidia support. While the 6990 is still using the 2xxx tesselation engine, but now it's improved from the 5xxx series.

Note: I am not a fanboy, I own ATi but prefer Nvidia so what ya gonna do

That still doesn't mean the 6990 can take as much voltage as you put through and that it's a mighty overclocker because it just isn't
Apply water cooling to both cards...

6990 will hit 1Ghz and be safe at that all day, Every day.

Water cooling won't make the 590's VRM's magically handle more current...

A big selling point for these cards is masses of hidden potential.

And the 6990 just has more of it....

As I said in the original review thread.... the only argument you have against the 6990 is the noise it makes.

A part from that one little detail it's better..... The 590 hasn't taken away it's crown of being the fastest graphics card on the planet.

If you're a hardware vendor and a GTX 590 with your company's name on it goes pop would you be pist?

Would be pist at the bad press your company name could get as a result?
If the 6990 is the fastest graphics card on the planet, then why doesn't win in EVERY SINGLE game? 'nuff said

High noise is a minor detail? It's actually a HUGE issue, surely you've seen the videos, you can barely hear the game over all the noise it makes. I'll take a quiet card over a noisy card any day, they both crush any game that is thrown at them well beyond the 60 FPS needed at high settings.

We'll tell you this though, the GTX 590 is downright silent for a multi-GPU product, and believe it or not -- something that simple could very well be the decisive factor for many of you.

Even with its massive downclock, it still manages to trade blows and in some instances best the 6990, then I don't see what all the fuzz is about.

It's not about the cooling SKYMTL, the PWM is too weak, just as it is on the GTX 570. Two GTX 590 died the same way here, one in our test lab and one in a demo system of a reseller, both not overclocked or overvolted; Nvidia says some faulty components not found on retail parts caused it, but both us and TPU had retail package GTX 590's.

I numbered your "points" and responded...

1) Straw man, this isn't a thread about the 6990.

2) Nobody ever said water cooling would make the VRM magically handle more current.

3) No it's not...If you'd educated yourself at all, the biggest selling point of the 590 was that it was QUIET.

4) Nobody cares because this thread is about the 590's drivers being partially//mostly to blame for it's heat issues and they are.

5) Again this isn't a 6990 vs 590 discussion so, going to be relevant or straw man more?

6) Again, not the point of this thread...

All you do is smoke and mirror the entire argument...Care to discuss something actually relevant to this thread?
