This statement makes no sense and has no relevance to this thread.

You mean the GPU that gives me GTX 580 performance for $350?

The first fermi release, or the GF-100's was probably the worst launch of a GPU in Nvidia's history.
The GTX 560, 570 and 580 are much better in every way.

Edited to save eyesight. rolleyes.gif If the card was running at full load in default configuration, then yes. If it died because somebody pushed it beyond the specified limit, it's their problem.

My rule is never play with voltage at stock fan speed. The guy at Pureoverclock says if you will touch the voltage set your fan to say 60%

Anyone that got the 6990 to anything higher than probably 940Mhz with voltage added had to set the fan very agressive or else it just downclocks.

???

The thread says Nvidia responds to 590s Frying.

Nvidia says don't go crazy on the voltage, especially on stock cooling.

So you call yourself a overclocker and you never try to find out performance scalability vs over-volting ?

I mean... my GTX580's could get 1.213v ... My old Lightning could get 1.3v ...
If it could not handle it would just freeze, crash or whatever ... but never blow up ...
To blow up a card, that is well built, it's not 1.2v in a bench that will make it blow ...
Even my GTX295 would handle 1.25v !!!

So, even if he could go step by step ... the problem is not with the 1.2v itself ... it's the freaking drivers that didn't throttled down ... and ... it's the 5 x 2 phase design that is powerful enough to handle a hamster spinning in a freaking wheel! smile.gif ( irony )

And as far as i recall other 590s went dead with much less voltage...
Everyone knows that GF110 are "volt freaks" ... they like power and don't deny it ... so it was not a problem of GPU cooling what so ever ... it was a problem of the power circuit not being able to handle the voltages ... nor being well cooled ...

Anyway, from my testing, with the actual drivers, it's worthless going above 1.05v ... the card will just throttle down and you will end up having less performance than you have just by overclocking with stock voltages.

Just take 1 second to see things as they are ... if you test graphic cards you should understand the basic functioning of it ... and all the "safe-guards" for not burning a card ... that weren't there in some cases ... and in other they were but didn't do squat ...

The GTX-590 that "blew up" did so because of over-volting; not regular overclocking on stock voltages.

Please show me a 590 that died from OC'ing @ stock voltages.

Some websites have said the issue is isolated to the ForceWare 267.52 drivers, but this isn't true as we only tested on the FW 267.71 driver and ours did die as well when overclocking.

Cards are going pop at overcloced speeds, At stock speeds and with a multitude of drivers...

It's not about the cooling SKYMTL, the PWM is too weak, just as it is on the GTX 570. Two GTX 590 died the same way here, one in our test lab and one in a demo system of a reseller, both not overclocked or overvolted; Nvidia says some faulty components not found on retail parts caused it, but both us and TPU had retail package GTX 590's.

Well, good...Already have mine in my rig, using it OC'd at 1.05 right now...Guess what, it's at 840mhz and GUESS WHAT, it hasn't popped yet!!!

If it does, we'll discuss it...Until then, who cares?

Drivers are working excellent and...it's quiet tongue.gif

GPU-Z?

And guess what?

I can get a 6990 + water block for same price as a GTX 590.

Overclock the 6990 and still have more performance then you wink.gif

Pics or it didn't happen honestly. All you've done to this point is talking too much same useless stuffs Mr Alienware senior manager or whatever.

Yes. GPU-Z validation would be nice.
