Prepare to cry. It's truly horrid.

Well honestly this was going to be my first FPS I was going to buy for PS3 (well except Warhawk, if that counts)... I generally hate FPS on consoles as I'm a KB/Mouse person, but this game looked fun by all the sounds of it. After playing the beta, it just reminds me why I'm a KB/Mouse FPS player. Not my cup of tea.

It's an over-the-shoulder (OTS) (Not real Socom there) third-person-shooter (TPS) lol But yes, it sucks.

I take back what I said about SOCOM 4 (not being my cup of tea).

Just fired up the beta in 3D.....holy cr*p, this game is awesome in 3D.

I normally don't like playing shooters in 3D (for example KZ3 or COD:Black Ops) because most shooters now a days are so fast, playing them in 3D is fairly disorientating.

But SOCOM 4 is ideal for 3D because its slower and more tactical.

I might get SOCOM 4 day 1.

It's a third-person shooter, not an FPS (First-Person Shooter).

But enough nitpicking. I don't mind Socom 4, it definitely has a different feel to it and there's some things I do and do not like. But it's decent. I dunno if I'll buy it, I'm sure it won't be a day-1 buy for me though. But I might pick it up later (if there's still a decent number of players by that time).

I think 4 is still tons better than Confrontation. I do get the "Confrontation still had the same feel of the previous games" argument, but I really just didn't like anything at all about Confrontation.

Very true, but the aiming is still the same!

So, I have played the Beta a bit, and I played some of the older SOCOMs, I wouldn't call myself a veteran, but i played enough to figure out what the game was all about. The newer one definitely borrows a ton from the CoD school of thought. Not cool

As a fan of the Original Ghost Recon (tactical FPS) I can feel the pain though. It went with a similar arc from starting as a great tactical shooter to a run and gun "ICANHAZCODPLAYERSPLZ" game.

Only problem is Socom was a cross between being tactical with team mates yet also having the skill to run and gun when it was called for. With this new one it's just hit circle, hide, cross on enemy, pop out then shoot, then pop back into cover... BORRRRINNGGGG! I used to be on all the previous Socoms for HOURS at a time. With Socom 4 I play 10 minutes then I hop off my PS3 and go vomit.
