Do you plan on gaming with one monitor (the bigger one)?

If so, then it doesn't matter. You can use your bigger monitor for your "main" screen and use the second as your "peripheral" screen.

There's no technical issues with using 2 or 3 monitors with different resolutions, sizes, refresh rates, or anything else.

However, it might be somewhat annoying to use different height monitors. I use 1920x1080 + 1280x1024. Both are the same height physically and almost the same virtually. I couldn't imagine using different height monitors. It would work, but it would annoy perfectionists.

No. Dual monitor gaming sucks. Different size monitor gaming sucks. You sound like you think that's the only purpose for multi monitor setups. It's not. Nobody with any sense would use 2 monitors for gaming 24/7, since the middle of the screen which has your focus is in the bezels.

Also, you can't offset the view like that. If you use 2 screens for gaming, the middle of the picture will always be in the bezel, where the crosshairs are too. So FPS gaming becomes impossible. With 2 monitors while gaming, you can't have a main screen.

Well, if you have OCD or something then sure. But I used to have a 1920x1200 28" with a smaller 22". The smaller monitor was much shorter in height. All you have to do is align the multi-monitor spread so that the system knows that the shorter monitor is shorter. That way when you drag windows from one to the other, you don't hit any invisible walls. Worked out really well, actually.

That's done by lowering the resolution, which makes any LCD look like trash. Of course, some monitors do it better than others.

Check out my edit above too btw

The other issue, is that different panels will render color differently...and getting different panels to put out similar/identical colors is annoying.

Never seen a feature like that. Mind enlightening me? Where do you control this thing?

I think you need to re-read my first post. I said nothing about a gaming spread across two monitors. I said gaming on the single, larger monitor and using the second for peripheral apps. (browsers, Ventrilo, media players, etc.)
