Just the rate the smartphones are progressing, you'd think google would just let everybody do their own thing. It's not like they would need to force me to upgrade a newer phone, most people just follow their provider's upgrade cycles anyways. I'm not sure how their revenue from the android project works, but it seems like they are doing very well.

As for open source. Yeah, I agree, it seems like it's an open platform. But not quite open source. Unlike the iphone and wimo7, at least it's modder friendly, I'll at least take that much. It's like windows, it's not totally open, but at least it's no apple OS.
It seems like it's the providers which is the worst offender, followed by some dick moves from the manufacturer. Sure, google could be better, but they aren't the ones who make me angry. Speaking of providers being douches. My Rogers Captivate is infinitely better than the one I was using from AT&T. Sideloading is ok, tethering is ok, everything is pretty much ok. Way less bloatware, and I'm almost certain it boots faster too.
