2 120GB Vertex 3's in RAID 0? - Page 3

post #21 of 29
Thread Starter
4 or 5 seconds will do for me.I'm aiming for 1GB read/write as i originally was looking at this;

http://guru3d.com/news/ocz-zdrive-r3...up-to-1000mbs/

but i'm not able to spend that much cash, its kind of a quest i'm on to get that performance, lol, but cheaper.

It must be possible, somehow.By the way i will be using this in a significantly more powerfull rig than i am currently running, either Bulldozer or 1366 as i'm not a fan of SB due to the tweaking is limited,i like to play with my fsb not just raise a multi.

My second vertex 3 is on the way, not sure if I will raid them thou, because of the TRIM thing...

Any recommendations?

Getting a 1366(used) rig and an SSD would be more than enough, then if you still have money put two of them in RAID, You could use 2 Crucial C300's

This is my benchmark if it helps to sway your decision.

My verdict:

Speeds are insane, but only in benchmarks. I actually regret spending money on the 2nd one when loading times are no quicker in RAID. As far as I'm concerned, I paid double the price just for a number.

P.S, Anything but using a P67 platform on this setup would be a waste, too.

I say just go with the single drive. You won't notice the difference.

I mainly would like to raid them to have a single drive (rather than for speed), buying a 240gb would have cost the same price as 2x120gb. Since I already have a single 120gb Vertex 3 I had the option to get a 2nd one, and if I want, raid them.

Yeah, that's how I looked at it.

At first, I was going to get the 240GB drive, but then I thought, I can get 240GB with twice the performance for the same price. Why not? If you already have the 120GB and NEED the extra space, I guess you don't have anything to lose.

For me, i notice boot times are slower because the raid controller has to initialize... inside the OS it is fast. Is it alot faster than 1 ssd.... no... benchmarks say different but i can't see a lot of difference.

I ran hd tune pro, and noticed it's not even close to as smooth as yours is, and my max speed was around 280mb/s :/ (this is on sata 3 mind you)
