everything on the features list says they are designed for maximum bass

" Specially designed damping perforation ensures powerful bass response

Lightweight diaphragm material with “turbine†embossing for extremely low bass

Powerful neodymium magnets and lightweight diaphragms for high sound levels

Powerful bass and increased signal levels for modern rhythm-driven music

I wouldn't recommend the HD202. Its just too bassy to the point it washes out the midrange sound. For $35 its overpriced and you can get the JVC HARX700 for $5 more. If all you listen is to dubstep maybe this headphone is good for you.

For $20 I would get the HD201 instead.

I don't mind a little bass. I'm worried that too much bass will drown out mid and high range sounds during gaming. Plus I'm more of a metal / rock kind of guy.

The JVC HARX700 has a good punchy and deep bass from what I heard. I am getting mine next week.

What you described is the HD202. The bass is just too excessive to point will drown out the mid and high range. Trust me get the HD201 if you short on cash or the HARX700 for $20 more which is comparable to the $100 Audio Technica cans.

It's not at all the cheapest.

Phew, finally someone with some common sense.

I almost threw up reading this thread with worry for the OP.

OP, if you're willing to dish out money for the Xonar DX, you should DEFINITELY get better headphones. The HD202s are AWFUL.

Trust me, be kind to audio equipment and it will last you YEARS. If there's something you should invest in on your computer, it's audio equipment because it just doesn't get replaced anywhere near how often the rest of your computer parts do. Headphones will last you til they die or til you're bored of them and want to upgrade.

Spend the money now, enjoy the best quality you can afford. It's honestly worth it more than any graphics card you can buy (subjective possibly, but it'll last you much much longer than any graphics card you will ever buy).

That send if you're looking for SUPER cheap headphones, I can only recommend 2 headphones.

1)RX700s.

And if you really don't want to spend more than 20 bucks..

2)Koss KSC75

I cannot even begin to describe how bad the HD202s are. I'm absolutely sure almost all of the money you're paying for those headphones are in design. Apple ipod earbuds sound better :\\

Beats would destroy these..so would their price though. Still, these are really bad headphones.

What she said

Even the HD201 are disappointing. They are pretty hard to drive and bass is almost non-existent.
