Recommend me Headphone & Soundcard!

So I've just finished the build in sig and and looking to get some good quality sound gear. I primary use it for games so the precision of were the sound comes from would be a contributing factor.

I was looking at this bundle some time ago and has dropped allot in price since I last looked, considering the time can i get better quality for roughly the same money with some newer stuff?

also I'm a complete noob regarding sound equipment, just so you write a reply accordingly

Good sound card. Not the best headphones (even after being tweaked). For the price and your needs though, you can do better.

Depends if you want quality sound or quality positioning.

If you want positioning I offer you the Titanium HD+AD700s.

If you want quality sound I offer you the Xonar DX+AD700s.

AD700s are the headphones you'll want to buy for gaming unless you're not into FPS. If that's the case I would buy headphones that are more for music and then I'll give you some suggestions from there.

Part of the reason why I'm saying don't buy the Xense is because it has an amp that you're not even using. I mean, if you're looking for a card to future proof your system, it's not bad, but an ST would be the better way to go. If you buy the Asus Essence ST though, I would suggest buying higher quality (more expensive) headphones that will actually make use of the amp.

I agree. The Titanium HD and Audio Technica AD700s sounds like what he is looking for.

Thank for the reply, after goggling Xonar DX their are allot of versions, which one is it you meant (want to compare price). I'm curios as to what you would recommend for the music to if you would be so kind.

regarding a mic - I have read about this forum that the Zalman clip on mic is recommended but previously with all microphones i have owned I have had to max out mic boost which has always left slight background noise, is something that only costs £10 that good?

Is there any other solution people have come up with to get a mic attached to headphones, I'm not so fond of a desktop mic.

If you mostly game go for Creative soundcard like the Titanium or maybe the Auzentech Prelude as Simca mention else go for the ASUS soundcard. I also hear the JVC HARX900 are pretty good for gaming.

Well, they can do gaming for a budget, but they're more for music on a budget really. They're bassy due mostly to the leather pads on them and this isn't the best for gaming. Modifying them is the only way to really game with them imo and even if you do they don't compare to AD700s sound stage and positioning.

Thanks for all the help you guys have given so far, its much appreciated. If I go for gaming I'm going to buy the Titanium HD+AD700s, looks solid.

But I'm still torn by getting a separate mic, can I ask if you had to recommend a headset is there one that stands out from the rest?

Fry's has a sale this weekend on the Titanium HD, plus a $30 mail in rebate.
And Asus is offering a $20 mail in rebate for the Xonar DX, till the end of March.
I just ordered the Xonar DX, but the Titanium HD is a good price this weekend.
I like my AD700s, but they are not very bassy.
If you like bass, pay a few extra dollars for the A700s.
