The poorman's baclit Black Widow

As I wrote elsewhere I need a mechanical backlit keyboard with the iso layout.

It doesn't exist, at least I haven't found one.

So I decided to buy a non ultimate black widow to experiment a bit.

It arrived (very quickly), but it has a faulty key (the T sometimes remains mechanically stuck and I have to hit it few times to get it working again, so i already asked for a refund.

But in the meantime i tried a set of fluorescent stickers I had handy.

They are not good as the non fluorescent ones (they are a bit thick and shiny) btw the end result, although not a miracle is not bad at all, a very dim light is sufficient to have a good visibility, and probably an UV led will be sufficient to get a better result.

BTW i made a couple of photos to show how much effect they have.

The stickers I had handy are dual layout US/IT, but they exist also in a wide variety of single and dual languages.

I left the function keys untouched to see the difference.

Very dim light conditions:

more light

A positive side effect is that they hide the idiotic razer fonts.

All in all a solution that can be worth the few €/$ it cost.

Unfortunately the ultimate doesn't exist in the UK layout i wanted.

Here in Italy the sys admind, programmers and the linux users are used to use the US keyboards to have handy a lot of symbols useful in the shells, and I did it too, but I literally hate the US enter key.

So I found that the UK layout is perfect for me: nice enter key, not too far from the US layout, and also handy to write the diacritical characters used in Italy (but also the Germany, France an so on).

So, if I decide to stay on stickers, I will swap the US/IT with UK ones.

I'm almost certain the Ultimate came in a UK Layout, still, nice idea.

Just US/FR/DE layouts are available at the moment.

The UK layout is used just in UK and Ireland (and by me in Italy), Australia, Honk Kong, South Africa and so on are all using its own layout or the US one, so, probably, the UK market is considered too small by the razor people.

I used to use UK, then I switched to US because US keyboards were easier and often cheaper to buy.

The horizontal enter key on the ANSI layout takes some getting used to if you're used to moving your hand all the way over to hit the large ISO enter. With some practice, many people who switch find it preferable due to the fact that you don't have to move your hand to press it.

One can become used to almost everything, but is easier when one have to deal with just one of two PCs.

I'm an IT technician so I have to go back and forth from my PC/notebook and the customer's ones, that in 98% of cases are IT/ISO, the last 2% is usually composed by a majority of US/ISO or US "Bigass" enter, and just few US ansi, so I'm perfectly comfortable with the logichal US layout, but not with the physical ANSI one.
