Tax Time - Upgrade to Sandybridge OR 2x6990 OR...

My gf is letting me use a fourth of the money we're getting back from taxes to upgrade the PC. Well here is where I stand. I have a decent enough system. I have a few options in my eyes at the moment.

1. Keep my X58 system and upgrade the video cards (probably would need to upgrade the power supply, but I won't include that in cost as I can just do it in a paycheck or two). I could go in the direction of 2x6990s (though this is overkill at 1080P resolution and it'd be for more e-peen). Or I could go 2x 6970s and get a couple more monitors and up that resolution.

2. Upgrading to sandybridge and get new CPU, MB, and Memory, and a light new video card setup (2x 6950s).

3. Go to the casino and gamble the money, hoping to get more money to triple my budget and get ridiculous PC.

Unless you're aiming for a 2600k! then go for number 2

some people might not agree with me here but the your i7 would probably bottleneck the "two" 6990's

2x 6970 2GB and 2 more 1920x1080 monitors is my humble opinion. next year, or 2 years from now, get a Ivy Bridge and new GPU if you need. If you clock that 950 to 4GHz that rig wil still have some serious gaming kick

Well I'm still undecided. But I have a few weeks to wait on the check (and to talk to the gf about upping the budget). =P

Thanks!

Well, this is easy. If you can afford to go for sandy bridge, and still get a couple of 6950's, then that is the clear choice. Most 6950's will unlock to 6970 specs anyways as long as they are reference, so i'd say go for that. In cpu intensive games, the sandy bridge system will be better.
