Review my potential core upgrade

Hi,

I'm currently planing upgradring the core of my sig system.

I want review of my choice of pieces.

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz

RAM: G.SKILL PI+ Turbulence II 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2400 (PC3 19200) Desktop Memory Model F3-19200CL8D-4GBPID

MB: GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD5-B3

For cooling I'm thinking to get the same cooler I currently have, since I have only 140 mm fan to exhaust "basic (commercial)" water cooling setup is not a option.

Thank you.

That looks awesome. One suggestion though. If you're not going to be doing any work related tasks, then go for the i5 2500k. From what I've heard, it's the same as a 2600k, except it doesn't have hyperthreading, which games don't use. It will also save you $100. I think a real upgrade though, would be to get a new gpu, and overclock your cpu.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I do a lot of stuff with my computer, from home theater PC to video encoding.

Hyper threading in the I series, for my understanding, is at the CPU, "hardware" level and is seen as "more cores" by the software.

And more and more games are CPU intensive then GPU... so my current dual setup will last for a while; still I agree that they'll be the bottle neck of the new system. But for now I'll do with this and upgrade the GPU later on.

To save 100$ or a +/- 1000$ upgrade... for me not really worth it.

Well depending on what resolution you play at, a gpu does matter, even if it's cpu intensive. If I were you, I would get a new gpu. I went from an e4500 with a gtx 260 to an i7 920 with my same gtx 260, and I saw no difference in games. I then upgraded to the gtx 480, and then I saw a HUGE difference, even in cpu intensive games. If you don't want to upgrade your gpu though, the upgrades in your OP are awesome .

I all ready have an SLI GTX260 OC cores (factory OC) didn't saw a huge difference with my current setup when upgrade to the SLI. When I play most of my game my CPU run around 80%, except assasin creed 2 where it's 90% and the FPS are "correct" (around 30-40 fps if there's no huge landscape).
