So is Crysis 2 worth it? - Page 4

It's fine, I don't see the problem with anyone NOT liking it cause it's the same excuse "console" port, blah, blah. Some just have excuses not to like something cause it's the "cool" thing to do I guess.

I'm liking Crysis 2 personally, but I'm probably the minority actualy having fun playing it as a game, not a benchmark.

Its a little linear for my liking, Crysis was a huge wide open sandbox world, this feels a lot like another black ops where really there is only one path with the illusion of options.

Having said that its pretty good and enjoying it. By no stretch the best FPS, feel like a half way between true PC shooter and dumbed down console shooter seems like the best way to describe it.

I am about 4 hours in, so let me give an opinion in progress:

All in all (so far) it is pretty solid. Not worth $60, but if you catch it on sale for like $30 it is worth it. I played the hell out of Crysis 1 and only for the sheer fact that it looked amazing. I personally thought the gameplay was pretty drab, but everything looked so pretty I just had to keep playing. (also playing with cheat codes and throwing hundreds of grenades every where was pretty entertaining.).

So how does this game measure up to the original in my opinion? Graphically it is subpar (for crytech at least). Don't get me wrong the game looks great but is definitely not up to the standards of Crysis 1. Gameplay seems to be a bit better this time around though. The cloaking function on the suit is actually useful as opposed to Cry1. I am still not sure how I feel about the strength being taken out as a suit mode. Also, not having the environment be nearly as destructible as Cry1 is a major bummer and the physics seem to be a little bit ... off... or something. I bumped into a guy with a car and he went flying ... I mean FLYING. I have noticed a few other little things as well that kinda bug me. The lighting seems to be purposely trying to disguise the poor textures. Everything causes lens flare. Also the amount of motion blur is a bit over the top (when maxed out).

The story in Crysis 2 is exactly what you would expect from Crytech. Pretty typical (so far) and not terribly interesting. Cry 1 suffered from this as well imo. I just could not have cared less about what was going on in that game. I don't think I am terribly far into Cry2 yet so the story could get better, but so far I am unimpressed.

All in all it is a decent game. Looks good and is functional but is nothing too spectacular. I was never THAT hyped about it to start with so I was not let down. I imagine if you have not played Cry1 and have no expectations about this game it will be a pretty enjoyable play through. I imagine that once through is enough though, not much replay in these single player FPSs really.

As far as multiplayer goes, it is retarded. I am super picky about multiplayer though so it all comes down to personal pref in that area. I hate it, you might love it.

Anyway, that is how I feel about the game. It sucks that we (PC users) got shafted on the graphics but a the end of the day I was not that hyped about the game in the first place.

I got Crysis for its open Sandbox Editor. The gameplay was meh. Seeing as to how Crysis 2 has no open sandbox editor available at launch, I'll pass up on it. As far as the gameplay goes, having played the multiplayer "beta", which was really just a demo, I was not at all impressed with how it played.

The Nanosuit, which is being touted as a streamlined version of the original is bogus. The fact that running takes energy is idiotic. Sprinting I can understand, but no; running. Yes, the suit is easier to use now, but it is in no way streamlined. But given that the game was made for consoles, I can see the logic behind it.

Overall, I'm going to pass this. I would like to make an additional point that my current system in no way was built for Crysis 2. The fact that it was built a few months prior to the game's release is simply coincidence. If anything, I use my current system for fractal rendering. And that itself is a far cry (pun NOT intended) from playing games like Crysis 1/2. I might reconsider when open sandbox editor is launched in the future, along with the supposed "DX11 patch with high-res textures".

The SP is worth it, longest SP I ever played for a FPS, it was fun and worth it. I wish COD was that long, since for some reason I love the COD series.

Just how linear is the gameplay in the retail version? Does it seem like you're playing 'in a tunnel' most of the time?

So imo this game is not worth 60 bucks, I got it on release and beat the campeign on super soldier in about 8 hours, one sit through.

Cons:
GFX
AI - They are retarded to say the least...id stealth kill a guy who is facing another guy and they wouldnt even react.
MP- Its a joke, its very inconsistant...but theres a game mode you can play that makes it so theres only like 10 seconds between each match since you asked, normally its 60 secs if you play str8 up team deathmatch.

Pros:
Story- Tbh the story was pretty good and exciting...I didnt get bored any time through, but it also wasnt a challenge, even on super soldier.
Sound- I loved the soundtrack with this game, music was awesome all the way through.

In conclusion I wish I would of just rented the game instead of paying full price for it...it just not all that good for replay since its not like crysis 1 were you can just go about your own business when it comes to taking down a challenge, this game is alot more linear when it comes to what to do. But I enjoyed the single player overall.
