Arggggg im so confused. I cant decide what to get.

I like alot of the studio monitors like the yamaha hs50m, m-audio bx5a, rokit 5 g2, and the mackie mr5 with a seperate sub maybe.

I also like the already set up 2.1's like the pro media 2.1, edifier s730, and the swan m50w.

The question is: what will give me better quality sound for 400$. An already set up 2.1 system or some studio monitors and a seperate sub? Alot of people recommended me to this sub: Dayton SUB-120 HT Series if i went the studio monitors + seperate sub route.

Listening is 60% hiphop 40% other. I also like to play first person shooters alot. and it needs to beable to plug in my azuzentech xfi-forte soundcard.

What I normally do is go out and try and listen to the speakers I want to purchase first and then decide which sounds better for the price point I'm looking at. That's how I purchased my 2.1 speaker setup. Of course setting up your own system instead of buying a 2.1 setup can definitely sound better but at the cost (most of the time) of getting bigger components.

If space is not an issue then go for building your own setup, but there are a lot of 2.1 systems out there that sound real good at your $400 price point.

Whatever you choose it's going to sound very good! take my 2.1 setup which is only in the $200 dollar range and I was able to buy some very nice sounding s330 Edifier's (rich base and nice mids).

Oh yeah I have tested out those s730's from Edifier and they sound really great! Enjoy!
