They rarely ever switch resolutions when porting games. The only games that change resolutions when they port games are the horrible ones. IE: Ghostbusters which had a horrible decrease on the PS3 in native res, which was patched later to a bit higher but still lower resolution.

Most cases: games either have the same resolution, or if there is a change it's only slight. IE - Final Fantasy XIII on the 360 had a slightly lower resolution then the PS3. Not dramatic in loosing graphical quality at all, at least noticeable while in motion combined with the fact that the 360 had some better alpha textures such as hair quality.

Weird, I didn't get any graphic errors at all on the ps3 for Mirrors edge. Played it a lot when it came out.

Yes, I know. But I don't think you get my point;

When they start developing a game, they need to choose a resolution and console to develop/code for. Since developing/coding a game for the XBox 360 is easier - making it cheaper - (similar to Windows architecture), most developers choose to develop for the XBox 360. Thus porting it to the PlayStation 3. The downside on this (for graphic junkies) is a maximum reolution of 720p. As far as I know game-wise, the XBox doesn't go higher than 720p. Because the PlayStation 3 has higher capabilities (hardware/resolution-wise) the XBox 360 coding is bottlenecking the PlayStation 3.
