Yep, thats what I refer to as the "bridge chip". The odd thing is there are no software drivers for it, it is like a "southbridge" chip where the drivers are in the bios.

I was assuming all Intel chipsets used the same PCI "bridge" chip, but it sounds like that is not the case.

That would mean that the bios revisions aren't going to be plug and play for motherboard bios engineers. Meaning good programmers will be needed at each individual motherboard manufacturer.

Man I hope that there are still some Abit engineers at Biostar, those guys a did great supporting my Abit IP35, even as they were closing shop.

What board are you buying? My Asus P9P67 Deluxe cannot detect my XtremeMusic. Tried both PCI slots, and the board doesn't even detect it being plugged into the PCI. Sigh, it worked fine with my P35 + Q6600 + Win7 build before.

Anyone with any Asus P67 board can get their PCI (not PCI-e) X-Fi to work?

Wether it is the bridge chip, the bios, or the soundcard drivers someone has pushed the standard protocol in thier programmming and there are issues. I don't care where the blame is, just know that my $150 PCI card won't work with any SB. So I am looking for a sound card with 24/192 ADC input, 110+db S/N, bitperfect playback, and 1155 compatible.

Could we use this post as a list of known compatible 1155 motherboard/soundcard combos?

My card works confused.gif

Ok, problem solved. My XtremeMusic is working with my P8P67 Deluxe now:
