How to maximize performance of 1TB Hard Disk?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Just a fast question: I'm currently using a Caviar Black 1Tb, both for boot and file storage. That's the weak point of my system, but I can't afford an SSD right now.
Is there a way to maximize its performance, maybe by shrinking it into more partitions? Or should I leave it all in one piece?

Your help is always appreciated thanks!

The fastest portion of a HDD is the first 10-20% depending on the model. What one usually does to maximize its disk speed is format the disk this way:
*at most the first 10% for OS. Max 10% because if the OS partition is too big you'll have the tendency to clutter the partition with other files than those of the OS, thus contributing to the fragmentation. My favorite is 40GB for the OS with all the libraries reallocated to folders on other partitions. So, say partition one has 50GB.
*you could leave all the rest in a huge 0.95TB partition, or slice it in a few more partitions, for sharing, media or documents.

The main is to create the OS partition at the beginning of the disk and keep it clutter free/defragmented.
