Thread Starter
So i started Java 1 last night, needless to say it is going to be a milestone! My instructor will be requiring a 25 question quiz each week, 6 page handout done, 4 labs and between 45-100 pages of reading a week. SO i think i will learn something, lol. Anyways he didnt go into much detail about the pros and cons of Eclipse or netbeans. So i was wondering if you could tell me which one is the best option. He did say netbeans is easier to install, but he uses eclipse for andriod apps.

It completely depends on the programming language. Assuming you're just talking about Java, then Eclipse is the way to go.

NPP is great, too. Especially for stuff like C/C++, etc.

Netbeans is alright. If you want a little easier transition into Swing, then Netbeans might be cool to play with.

When using something other than a basic text editor, I like Eclipse. The debugger is very helpful.

Notepad++ is awesome, but I always seem to find that eclipse is great. I love the easy use of the api plugin for android and it has awesome to have code assisted pop-up boxes. The only thing I was they worked on better was toning down the amount of resources it pulls, doesn't run well on a netbook or older machines at all.

Netbeans is total junk you ask me. I don't think it matters much the Eclipse vs. NetBeans arguement since it is like Ford vs. Chevy. It is just I don't like nor do I like to use JBeans and my professors damn near failed a friend of mine for submitting JBean assignments because unlike writing a normal Java source code file JBeans are alittle different causing issues.

The only other thing I would say is Eclipse has the basic GUI API of Java which is okay, but the good NetBeans GUI API I think is a little flashier.

as others have said, eclipse. It works well and has lots of plugin support which is great for frameworks and such.
