no boot up problem

Thread Starter
just built a computer for cheap for a fellow co-worker.

specs:
MB biostar n68s+
Centon 800mhz ddr2 ram
Diablotek 400w power supply
AMD Phenom X4 9850
seagate 7200rpm 500gig hdd
some cheapo dvd burner.

when i hit the power button the cpu and power supply fans come on, the dvd drive light flashes then the system goes dead after 2 seconds.

i have switched ram to different spot
i have no idea why its doing this but i have a suspicion that i will be rmaing something which i really dont want to do. any help would be great.

one thing that scares me is that the cpu came with one bent pin which i bent back and it just dropped into the board after that.

unplug everything, but 24pin and CPU plugs. use a screwdriver to start it up(power pins on the mobo)

If there's no boot up problem, what's the problem? Bad titles suck.

How bent was the pin? Folded over or enough off center to impede?

Are you getting low voltage from the PSU? Test it with a multimeter.

Had a similar problem with an old P4 rig, lights and fans would come on, but the fans were reeeeealy slow and it wouldn't boot. I (stupidly) opened up the PSU, and found it had a blown cap :\\ Took it to the store to get a new PSU, but the guy there noticed that a chip had blown on the mobo that I didn't notice, but was like a 6 year old board lol.
