Fantastic news on the single, that gives me relief. Very curious about the double though.

Anyone experience any micro stutters on a 590 Quad-SLI?

I would suspect a negligible difference between the two variations. I personally hate non-back-plated cards. I was really happy when EVGA make their custom one

I have 9 fans in my case and on 1 loop, maintain a 7* delta with a 590 and a 980x...at 45dB.

I dare anyone on air to say something remotely similar.

Well I did a little benchmarking today, wasn't planning on it but oh well.

HWBot Submission

Ranked 17th out of 42 (4 GPU Setups)
Ranked 5th out of 18 (4 GPU + H20 Setups)
Ranked 1st out of 1 (GTX 590 Submissions) <- Only Temp, the other two make me feel happy.

Of course our own little benchmarking thread for Unigine here on OCN.

RagingCain ---- i7 980x/ 4.853 GHz ----- GTX 590 SLI 830 / 1690 / 1728 ----- 154.4 ----- 3890

I included a screenshot of Heaven has some issues (45% GPU usage for over 10 seconds triggered by the Benchmark itself) and I anticipate drivers improving that GPU Usage to more consistent higher state.

I have officially beaten a couple of quad GTX 580 setups with this Overclock.

This is on driver set 267.85, as opposed to 267.84 last time.

I am going to probably be going down for a little bit (dismantling computer), but is there anybody who is a BOINCer / Folder able to run their GTX 590 for a little bit?

I think there is a flaw with my cards and perhaps all EVGA voltages.

Problem:
Getting computational errors (fewer than last time).

Reason:
Faulty cards OR mis-matched voltage. I know my cards, and probably all EVGA, cards have mis-matched voltage. It looks like EVGA raised the voltages to accomodate the 630 stock overclock. In doing so, only one of the two GPUs for me sits at the higher voltage. Both of them have the permanent clock rate of 630 MHz. GPU 0 is at 0.925v, while GPU 1 is at 0.913v. I have noticed this on both cards, in video games, while folding, all while having great temps. While folding, the cards sit around 30% usage, and have a max temp of 35c, so there is no visible throttling, and GPU1 (2nd GPU) in both cases has a solid 0.913v which leads to believe it is set in BIOS this way (possibly by accident.)

Possible Non-Permanent Solution:
Using obviously a voltage unlocked driver set, I manually set my stock clocks and voltage in MSI Afterburner. What this does, it forces my 3D Power speed to 630 MHz (no change) but it forces the corresponding voltage to 0.925v for both GPUs as long as Afterburner is up and set.

Possible Permanent Solution:
Edit BIOS.

I am going to contact EVGA regarding this, but if I can get someone to run BOINC/Folding for the day without adjusting the voltage, and see if you get an error.

Why This Is Bad:
This isn't catastrophic, however, this same error can crash a video game, benchmark, operating system, errors in encoding/decoding, or just crash the nVidia drivers themselves. Its just generally all around problematic.

I've been saying this since the day of release...doesn't anyone read what I say anymore?

The voltage is NOT due to Evga's overclock because there isn't one...If you want to run this card at bone stock, it's at bone stock.

The voltage is due to the bios (As I've pointed out 5 times, just checked my previous posts), it's also due to the drivers attempting to draw more from core 2 vs core 1.

Core 2 is the limited core while core 1 recieves less voltage.

We have 4 Asus 590's in the office, same EXACT problem as the Evga 590's...Thus, I decided to write my own drivers.

There's even an issue with customizing the drivers because the fluctuations are actually accounted for at both levels.

If you really want this card to run 100% properly, wait for Nvidia to release a new bios...I wouldn't touch the bios on these cards if you paid me and ironically, that's pretty much what I get paid to do.

Masked, I do know you were saying this from day 1, I think it was one of the first things you brought up.... RagingCain is the first to confirm it. I also suspected, but both of my cores seem to be reporting the same voltage..... but perhaps what I am seeing is just what it is set to and not what they are receiving.

Now here is an interesting question, how often does nvidia release new bioses? And how painful is it to flash?

Nvidia doesn't often release new bioses, they're very stubborn in terms of pride.

If you disect the bios of these cards, you'll find some "code" that sits a bit differently and looks a bit odd, out of place if you will...That's your issue.

The cores are being limited already at the base programming, the OTHER lovely little contributor is the driver control.

Nvidia has linked the drivers into their bios so, there is a dual layer of control...

Initially the drivers were open BUT, so many people bricked their cards, a "hard-lock" was enforced.

What we see now is this "lock" in conjunction with them not "trusting" the public to open the cards up again.

If you attempt to change the drivers, it's like a domino effect, you're not sure what controls this or that because of the "unique" bios.

It's literally going to take them to change it, to fix any of these issues and they've promised TO change it, question is...When?

If you had an old version of Rivatuner or, Aida...These are programs that rely on "real-data" and give real time voltages...Thus, from day 1, I've said the cores are different in every aspect...

What's interesting is that until this latest update from MSI, one could not tell any different...Same goes for Precision and most other utilities.
