That would be PoV cards cheers.gif

Quick question;

I currently have 2x GTX 470 in SLI @ 750 Mhz. will upgrading to a signle GTX 590 wil give better perfomance, similar or worse?

I tried looking up GTX 470 SLI vs GTX 590, but couldn't find anything, only a signle GTX 470 vs GTX 590.

Thanks in advance guys.

I swapped from 3x480's and I see an increase in...everything...So, I would assume if you have 2x470's, then yes, this will be an upgrade.

@Ragin, I know with their MB fiasco things are a bit...Hectic. Has/is there any word on the bios front from EVGA?

They have just left me with BIOS version 2 or 92/93 BIOS so far.

Although my voltage is lower on GPU4, I won't be really able to tell till I run BOINC for a while if its stock error free, but honestly the games that do run, run really smooth.

I had Bad Company 2 at 150+fps and WoW between 70-250 fps, both on 1920x1080 max settings. The girlfriend was telling me Sims 3 plays great as well, with facial glitches on portraits though.

Maybe Reign of Power can give better experience, I have barely had time to play.

Just PM either of us if you want the BIOS update.

At home, I've been encountering some issues that I can't quite put my finger on...Same goes for work.

It's frustrating because if I swap drivers, I lose compatability with 2/3 programs I'm currently using and if I don't...I seem to randomly crash.

The Witcher 2, isn't that big of a deal anymore because I save often...But, the BC2 glitch has become extremely predictable.

In server select the screen automatically reduces to a window and forces me back into windows...Upon maximizing and loading a server, once playing, the game then freezes, both screen go white and flicker...and it's actually somewhat difficult to exit the window...Then I get a windows scheme message asking me if I wish to change my windows theme etc...All of the above happens every single time like clockwork.

I have a strong feeling it's driver related but, due to sheer "stability", I've had to keep the 6990's in...My office literally bakes.

I'm hoping this WHQL release they address it and hopefully EVGA will come out with a "fixed" bios, as well.

Just took the plunge and ordered my GTX 590. Was going back and forth between the 590 and 6990 for two weeks.

2 weeks? That's it? I was debating that since they released late March up until about a week ago. tongue.gif

Yeah, my card has 607 default clock and the GPU-z says VDDC is 0,912 at load and 0,875 at idle.

This being said there are many variables to consider especially the Voltage Regulation, and it may seem like you are not drawing any more power because the numbers change, it is just reaching that voltage cap of whatever it is said to. It seems a bit confusing but for example, you set it to 0.913v, it reads 0.913v, but the VRM is actually at 0.900v and will provide enough voltage to the run the GPU up to 0.913v.

You set it to 0.925v and it reads 0.925v but the VRMs might still read 0.900v because you haven't increased the draw of power through the GPU. VRMs are allowed to allow enough juice to go through up to 0.925v, however it gates the current, but it doesn't have to be 0.925v. On these newer Geforce cards though, I have noticed, if you set the value to 0.925v, it immediately gives it that current and the VRMs compensate and fluctuate to above and below the value. In essence, the gap has greatly decreased. Think of it as Load-Line Calibration in a sense, however its sometimes hard to read without a voltmeter. Our third party sensors aren't as accurate as we like to believe and many of the values we see are as off as +/- 15% on a lot of them, but for the most part they are good enough to get the job done.

That is my current understanding of how these more complicated VRMs work, and I maybe off slightly, but I think I got the general idea of how it works. Sometimes the system can provide extra performance with no added juice. Sometimes you need a nudge of extra voltage to increase the speed just a fraction, but by doing so, you are able to give yourself even more headroom to go even faster.

Uff, these things with voltages and currents, it kills me biggrin.gif Anyway my point was, in case of GTX590, the issue is actually with the insufficient power cascade and aggressive OCP, not cores being unable to hit clocks under 800 MHz...if then my CUDA app has lesser power draw than games/benchmarks/stress tests, i can clock it higher, before i hit the OCP wall, right? Again under condition, the cores can run stable at given clocks and volts.

The Power Draw Limit is something that appears to be a non-hardware type of throttling (slowing down) of the GPU. We worked it out that as the Power Draw increases, a limiting performance bouncing effect occurs of jumping between the core clocks you have set, and the PDL "safe" underclock which I think is 553 MHz.

Yeah, 3Dmark and Furmark are surely very stressful apps, the question is, does Octane stress the GPU as much as these apps? I do not need my card to not crash Furmark, i need it run Octane at given clocks...
the thing is, i read lot of reviews of the card and most of them claimed, they were not able to OC the card higher on stock volts than 670-710 MHz... i reckon that means that 3dmark/furmark whatever they used crashed/read some error with higher clocks than that. But then you have The Wizzard fella of TPU, who managed to run his card at 772 on stock volts... can the difference between the ability of the cores on different cards be so huge? One can run stable at 670 only, but another at 770?
Anyway what i am trying to say, going with the majority, my card should be probably stable at 0,912 up to lets say 690 Mhz... i suppose it would make few minutes/half hour of 3dmark/furmark/heaven/OCCT etc and could be considered stable. Now i could run it already half of an hour at 723 MHz rendering with Octane, i have either good card or Octane does not stress the GPU/ does not draw as much power as those benchmarks, despite both cores are loaded at 90-100 percent and the temps are up to 90C degrees... if the latter is true, i fail to see a point of these benchmarks then...

One more question, is there any app, which would let me make OC profiles for my GPU... i mean i wish to run it at 723 with Octane, but i am ok with only 670 while gaming...so i do not have to set it manually, each time i want to run the specific app...
