DX11's biggest unleashed weapon is making games "forced" multi-threaded. I.e., code your game with DX11, and DX11 will handle multi-core/thread CPUs. Civilization V is the only title I know of that has it activated, and it was activated recently too. I can use all 12 threads on my CPU in the 50-75% on Civ.

I think some where along the way there was a small brush into DX11 multi-threading for GPUs. 99% of games would already have profiles, and we see this. But new DX11 games would have no profile, till nVidia and ATI make them etc.

For video card drivers that have no "over-ride" profile for the game i.e. SLI Profile / CAPs, DX11 attempts to multi-thread the code through the GPUs natively through the OS. Its just not as efficient or effective as SLI or CFX.

Like I said, its a far out theory. Seeing 40% GPU usage, that is in sync on every card just doesn't make sense to me. I would expect one GPU at 99% while the others are at 0% if there was multi-GPU issue.

Alternatively, nVidia's default SLI profile is just so generic and sucky, they can claim these massive 300% benefits with new driver release. It could be a some weird crazy marketing gimmick, but why target primarily DX11 titles?
I'm actually in agreement except I'm seeing it in almost every game we currently have...

Not sure why ATM but looking into it.

Hello, I just got my Gainward GTX 590 today. And when I check GPU-Z one of the GPU's are always at full speed while the other is not. The fans are running at 1500rpm, and it's quite loud, is this normal when it is idle?

Also, GPU 1 usage is high in for example Crysis and Bad Company 2, but GPU 2 runs at max 37 % usage. Is this normal?

Hmm...

Just as I was about to pull the trigger on a second 590, you and some of the members of the EVGA forum have me thinking otherwise. Some there are claiming that 1.5gb of VRam isn't even enough for 5760x1080

Is this true? If so, I may go for a pair of 3gb 580's

Though I'd be slightly bummed to lose my little LED bling on the 590 card. That light up logo is like the hood ornament when it comes to the aesthetics of my rig. It's what makes it Pimp...

Yes, 3GB cards would be more adequate for surround. If you want aesthetics, why don't you check out the 3GB Lightning XE 580s?
