hmmm...could i let PhysX to be done by CPU in 280.19? just found this option and didnt noticed that it was there before

The voltage is locked with 280.26

I can only go to .913mV now, instead of the .95mV I need to be stable 710 mhz.

I am going to test the crysis 2 fix claims, if it works I will stay on this one, if not I am going to revert for the overclock.

(I have a gtx 275 for physx and it causes flickering in crysis 2)
Confirm, crysis 2 flickering is gone, regardless of physX setting/setup.

You could let your cpu do physx computation, but it is highly inefficient doing it.... It is much better to set one of the gpu's in an sli rig to do it. Or if you have a spare card to set it on that one.

Would a 9800GT severely hamper physX performance if I used it as a dedicated physX card in this setup? I really helped my previous quad Xfire setup when I had 2 5970's, not sure if the same could be said with my current GPU setup.

In 590 SLI, my opinion would be that its worse. The 590 gpu is more than capable of handling all the data going around and Physx.

It would be worse to use the 9800GT, its a waste of power, waste of PCI-E Bandwidth, and a waste of CPU Cycles to get little or no benefit over using one of the 590 GPUs.

I don't have any data on this, but just an observational opinion.

Unfortunately my chip couldn't manage 4.8GHz at a voltage I considered acceptable... however, I have achieved a stable overclock at 4.7GHz which I'm very happy with! It has currently survived 45 minutes (when I started typing this post, now over 80 minutes) of turricans extreme settings in the Prime95 Blend test at 1.432v which I am content with for 24/7 use.

Max temps are below, with my CPU fan speed locked at 75%;

Core 1 - 67c
Core 2 - 70c
Core 3 - 69c
Core 4 - 69c

Prime95 is still going and temps are sat at 64-66c across the board. I'd like to extend a big thanks to everyone who offered their advice and helped me get this far.

Now, onto the interesting stuff - you may remember the whole reason I attempted the overclock was to test game performance. I ran 4 benchmarks with each game. These benchmarks were;

1. CPU @ 4GHz, GTX 590 @ Stock (630MHz, 0.913v)
2. CPU @ 4GHz, GTX 590 Overclocked (670MHz, 0.950v)
3. CPU @ 4.7GHz, GTX 590 @ Stock (630MHz, 0.913v)
4. CPU @ 4.7GHz, GTX 590 Overclocked (670MHz, 0.950v)

It is important to note that the drivers used for this test were 280.19, and the spec of the system tested were as follows;

- i5 2500k @ 4GHz & 4.7GHz
- Antec Kuhler H2O 920 CPU Cooler (Coolermaster Sickleflows P/P @ 75%)
- ASUS P8P67 Pro B3 Motherboard
- 8GB (2x4GB) G.SKill Ripjaws X RAM @ 8-8-8-24/1.5v
- EVGA Classified Edition GTX 590 @ 630MHz & 670MHz
- NZXT Hale90 850w Gold Power Supply

They were all tested on a Benq XL2410T monitor at 1920x1080/120Hz.

Here are my results;

Some interesting results to say the least! I must say though, that throughout these tests my GPU usage was all over the place - in all the games. It was barely, if ever, at a solid 90%+ usage for any length of time.

Max temps are below, with my CPU fan speed locked at 75%;

Core 1 - 67c
Core 2 - 70c
Core 3 - 69c
Core 4 - 69c

Prime95 is still going and temps are sat at 64-66c across the board. I'd like to extend a big thanks to everyone who offered their advice and helped me get this far.

Now, onto the interesting stuff - you may remember the whole reason I attempted the overclock was to test game performance. I ran 4 benchmarks with each game. These benchmarks were;

1. CPU @ 4GHz, GTX 590 @ Stock (630MHz, 0.913v)
2. CPU @ 4GHz, GTX 590 Overclocked (670MHz, 0.950v)
3. CPU @ 4.7GHz, GTX 590 @ Stock (630MHz, 0.913v)
4. CPU @ 4.7GHz, GTX 590 Overclocked (670MHz, 0.950v)

It is important to note that the drivers used for this test were 280.19, and the spec of the system tested were as follows;

- i5 2500k @ 4GHz & 4.7GHz
- Antec Kuhler H2O 920 CPU Cooler (Coolermaster Sickleflows P/P @ 75%)
- ASUS P8P67 Pro B3 Motherboard
- 8GB (2x4GB) G.SKill Ripjaws X RAM @ 8-8-8-24/1.5v
- EVGA Classified Edition GTX 590 @ 630MHz & 670MHz
- NZXT Hale90 850w Gold Power Supply

They were all tested on a Benq XL2410T monitor at 1920x1080/120Hz.

Here are my results;

Some interesting results to say the least! I must say though, that throughout these tests my GPU usage was all over the place - in all the games. It was barely, if ever, at a solid 90%+ usage for any length of time.
Pick up The Witcher 2 if you wanna test if your gpu's run like they are supposed to.

I do have it actually - I haven't reinstalled it since I formatted my PC a couple of weeks ago. I could chuck it back on and benchmark it with Fraps I guess!

However - it's extremely poor that my GPUs would run at max in only one game...

Good job sticking with it, you probably learned how to "drive" your system a little better, which is good for anyone. Hell, I am usually surprised every other day with something that greatly alters performance both good or bad.

Its what I thought, we are essentially at the mercy of Driver Team nVidia, but it was worth a good try. I will say this though, it can only get better... take that for what you will.

You should definitely jump in my 590 vs 6990 thread, I don't have another soul benchmarking.

Just read the main post (link is in my sig), and you will be in your own winner's circle of single 590s
