NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 252

But Masked, that's exactly what worries me. I am gaming on only one monitor. A 24" BenQ XL2410

In fact, it was you and Raging and others in this club that convinced me to go with a single monitor over surround when I was deciding on whether I wanted to get a bigger 120hz monitor (either the 27" Acer or upcoming Asus) over adding two more BenQ's to the one I have now.

And while I know you don't mean to imply me or anyone else in the club, have unrealistic expectations about the 590, I should've been more clear about my 590 Quad SLI expectations with this game and specified when I said that I was hoping to run it full blast, I don't include high AA in that. Or any AA at all.

But I did have it set at 4xAA so maybe that was doing it? Though I can get 120fps pretty constant with 4xAA on BFBC2 (I'm only saying that based on Dice saying if you can run BFBC2, you can run BF3)

Or, maybe the game is somehow a little more CPU dependent than realized? I am running an older Bloomfield 920.

I do know that at the Alienware M11x forums, BFBC2 was one of the few games where having a stronger CPU really made a difference in performance. People with the original M11x or the R2 owners who went with the I5 were having some issues playing stable. But us M11x-R2 owners with the I7 could play at decent settings and get a constant 30-40fps+

I want to get on there more and fiddle with settings, but the fact that you can't do it until you can find an open server, get into a game, and try to do it when you're not being fragged all the time is really frustrating and dissuading.

Masked without getting into specifics that might violate any NDA's, are you running the same build as the open Beta? Or maybe a more advanced build that allows you to really test Ultra settings with uncompressed textures, etc.?

I haven't given the Beta enough time, so maybe it'll get better.

But, Masked, I'm even a little more worried now after your last post, knowing that I'm running the game on a single monitor and am averaging the same 90fps as single 590 users.. (Congrats to you single 590 owners on that btw! Pimp!)

I know we're running a different flavor...And I do personally believe the game is a bit more CPU dependent.

Personally, I'm upgrading the entire office to Dozer or 2700k's once they're released...I have yet to decide but, it's cheap, it works, both are highly overclock-able so, I'm just going for it.

They're doing a lot to change the graphics and make it better...For example we have a daily patch (I'm downloading it right now) but, over-all I think you'll be fine.

Personally, I'd upgrade from the 920 when you have the cash because the difference between the 920s/950's to even a 2600k is tremendous...

90fps is still a lot though, so I personally, don't think you're missing too much

I was going to do that, but RagingCain's posts about how the SandyBridge mobo's didn't have x16 pipelines like X58's do made me reconsider.

But maybe now I need to reconsider that. When's the 2700K's come out? Are those the same as IvyBridge? Or is that an interim chip?

But maybe jumping from my X58/Bloomfield with x16 to a SB CPU and Mobo at x8, would I take a significant hit? If so, then I'll stick to the original plan to wait for the next CPU that has a mobo that can do x16 pipelines.

I've never heard of Dozer. So I'm assuming that's an AMD chip, yes? Though to be honest, I don't keep up very well with the CPU market like I should so I'm expecting to be wrong on anything I'm saying.

You're right 90fps is nothing to sneeze at. I guess I'm stuck on 120fps for 120hz., but 90fps Vsynch'd at 120hz is pretty smooth.

Masked, if you have any direct input with the developers, I know they're not going to get rid of the browser - but for the love of God, can you or anyone reading this thread that may have the contacts, tell them to make sure to at least make it so the player will be able to change their options and settings from the browser, instead of only in game and on a server?? That is really killing me and many others on the forums it seems.

I once had to ask OCN how to overclock the X58 platform after our Intel tech went on vacation for 2 weeks so, I'm not exactly the authority on this subject.

What I can say is that both have their ups and downs...But, the biggest difference is thread dedication.

The 2700k will be a much better overclocker than the 2600k and will be @30$ more.

From the perspective that it's a work-horse, it's well worth the swap from the office 950's to the 2700k on release.

I do realize there are less pipelines but, the 30% increase you'll see in CPU performance I think will outweigh the 2-3% difference from the pipelines missing.

You have to realize that between X8/X16 there's only a 2-4% if that, difference in performance.

I was originally planning to wait for the 3930k's but, we haven't even seen projections on that yet much less anything solid.

We commented on the BF3 issue, in fact, I mentioned it 6 times in a "debriefing" because it pushed me over the edge...Finding a server that's not packed in nearly impossible, too.

I think that the 590 can handle BF3 well given the chance...On high/ultra...However, a faster processor will always help push it a bit further, I think.

Ask Ragin...Get a second opinion but, I think an upgrade would drastically kick up performance.

Well Raging told me to wait for IvyBridge since it will have mobo's with x16

but you've pretty much convinced me to go for it. And since the 2700K look as if they're not coming out until the end of the year or early next, it looks like I have some time to think about it.

I'm sure as hell not going to go get a 2600K now, now that you've enlightened me to the 2700K's right around the corner. Much appreciated.

Battlelog is not getting good feedback anywhere. Kotaku's article about it has the comment section blowing up with disapproval

I can deal with it as long as they make the player able to change options from the browser and not have to wait to be in game for it.

But I really am considering cancelling my pre-order to make a statement that this change they're trying to push on us is FUBAR. And then pick up the game at launch if it's been confirmed to be remedied to widely accepted satisfactory degree.

All I really wanted for the game was BFBC2 with a new coat of paint and the ability to fly Jets. Not some browser based innovation BS that actually makes getting into a game more cumbersome instead of more efficient.

I'm psyched to know that professionals like you are giving the same feedback. Muchas Gracias...

I'm gonna trust it's going to get better.

Looking forward to other 590 users thoughts and experiences that are in the beta.

I'm kinda in the same pickle here , my 930 annoys me so much cause it's so **** hot but i think buying 2600K in this point of time is not a good idea, plus the fact i already have a decent CPU makes the wait even easier.
I think I'll wait and see how Ivy will perform.

All this Ivy talk makes me glad I got an 1155 over 1336 for the IB compatibility.

Everything I've read says IB will still have only 16 physical lanes.

Most of what the 7 series seems to bring to the table is chipset-based USB3 and PCIe 3. I highly doubt nvidia will bring PCIe3 into its 600 series lineup which gives you two years or more to not care unless you run the latest and greatest PCIe-based SSDs; which seems silly for people in this club since we all enjoy graphics performance. If nvidia does release PCIe 3.0-based cards for the 600 series then I will smash a cinder block, add it to my food, and ____ bricks. That is my vow.

Also Intel has been hyping the new IGP and power saving features and avoiding performance. An increased L3 cache will probably help a little and the 22nm might aid in higher overclocks but the architecture is the same as SB.

It'll be interesting to see how the performance pans-out. But I guess my point is that if you get a Z68 chipset and 2600k/2700k, IB is simply a drag-and-drop if it ends-up being worth it. Plus pricepoints are said to be about the same as SB is now, so it won't be a huge expense to upgrade if you choose to.

I'm a bit hesitant whether the 2700k will be that much of an improvement. My money says that it will be a 2600k with a 100MHz OC from the factory. If it OCs better than the 2600k, it will probably be by about 100MHz. Is that 100MHz worth $30? Your call.

My feelings with computers are if you want it, get it. You can always rationalize waiting to the point that you never upgrade.

Quick question off topic: Are you guys seeing a lot of issues via the drivers in the last 6 months, using the Nvidia Control Panel setting the TEXTURE FILTERING QUALITY to HIGH QUALITY?

I have religiously set that to HIGH QUALITY for all my cards and since they added the Ambient Occlusion Performance/Quality option I've set that to Quality. For years now I've always set it to High Quality. But now I'm seeing strange stuttering in games like Dirt 3 and Dawn of War 2 when setting it to High Quality. Keeping everything at it's defaults except the Ambient Occlusion seems to fix it. Do you guys benchmark with everything at their control panel defaults too?
