We need to find something. This season full of spectacular games has started off with a huge let-down. I hear ya on the post-apocalyptic stuff. It's getting a little old. I was counting on Skyrim based upon how Morrowind and Oblivion pushed machines, but they nerfed that one, too.

I budgeted for BF3 and now that I might have to make a different decision, it's difficult. Already PO Skyrim PC (mods) and ME3 CE.

I had a few friends over to try-out BF3 and they were all underwhelmed. We all agreed that the gameplay felt like MW2 or BO with team-based objectives. A.k.a. Deathmatch but occasionally someone plants a bomb.

Team communication is also fairly lacking. And the keybindings are awful. 'J' to talk to everyone? What? Was there something wrong with 'T' for global chat and 'Y' for squad chat?

I guess you could rationalize it. Because "Talk" definitely starts with 'J.'

I also tried to bind a key as press = toggle crouch, hold = toggle prone but it never mapped the bind. And once I bound the first key the mouse cursor went away.

They're presenting us with the basics... which are what should work when they release an open beta. During beta I don't care about all the advanced stuff, but controls and hit counters should both work.

I have no idea what are you guys complaining about, i just LOVE this game already.
The dynamics is right between COD and BFBC2 , I'd say they hit the sweet spot.
There is some annoying bugs and the graphics is not entirely there but once they fix it we got a winner , pre ordered after a few rounds of beta
Now if they just let us try the Caspian border .......................

What mainly drives me nuts is being gimped to only be able to set game/video settings and options only when logged on a server and in a match.

That is ridiculous

...Wow, so you guys had your first REAL Beta...

How'd it feel?

See, most people don't understand what we Beta on a daily basis...They think it's a working product but, it's really not.

The same goes for BF3...Over the past year @30 games I can name off of the top of my head were worse...Hell, in the CoDBO beta, you couldn't move forward...People literally strafed for 3 days until the patch went live.

So, yet again, I disagree with you guys.

This is a typical beta and is actually presented better than most that we see...My only true complaint is the setup.

The Frostbyte engine is fantastic...Definitely a contender...There are actually trajectory velocities now that align with real life...I.E. I can't shoot you with the M16 from the other side of the map...

I personally think all of your expectations were TOO HIGH going into a Beta...Like I said, I've seen severely worse from games that not only made GOTY but, actually won awards...1 or 2 of them are still on NDA's because of how "bad" their betas were (Games released @a year ago)...So, I see absolutely no reason to worry.

They're going to fix the setup, have said so...The only reason it is this way is because it's a server side fix...You're actually changing the setup on their server which relays it back to you...This //WILL// change.

I'd be happy you guys are actually //IN// a beta and go from there

Seriously, Do you guys remember server browser in BFBC2 when it was first release ? It took DICE well over 6-8 months to final fix it! This battle log has been working so dam well, with some bugs. I rather take this over a main menu like BFBC2. You seem to forget that client your playing on its about 2-3 months old. Most of this stuff has been fix, "then why give us a old client ?" Well, this will give DICE a chance to have Millions of people report bugs or find bugs that they couldn't in house testing. I rather take this build BF3 that over BFBC2 any day!

EDIT: Also i know most you just start playing yesterday and not when it was closed.... of course yesterday was going to have huge problems...... THERE WAS 1.5 Million Trying to play at the same time. I suggest you go give it a try today or during the weekend. Its been much better.

I also can you see your right to knock the game down if they weren't updating it or trying to fix the major problems, but they are, we have had 6 updates and fixes since Tuesday and 2 since yesterday!

It's not my first beta. I used to work at Activision and have 3 QA credits on my resume. Before the Dark Times. Before the Empire...

I'm quite familiar with reporting bugs repeatedly, only to see them not get fixed and then have the game pushed out the door to make a release date. Ever since then, I have never judged the QA team when I play a bug filled game.

Masked, I'm actually taking your word over what the BF3 forums are saying for sure. But over there the insinuation is, that setting things in game were going to be in the final build. Which made no sense to me. So if it's not a design issue, great! But, then it's fair to say that they haven't done a very good job of communicating that to testers.

As for happy to be in the beta, I agree it's a privilege, but it's also one I paid for as a promotion for buying MOH. Considering that the only value I got from dropping that $60 on MOH, is two days early access in a beta where most of the time you can't even get into a game - I think it's fair to be feeling some disappointment.

If this were SW:KOTOR, which is invite only, then yeah, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. But that's not the case with this beta. Since we bought into it by purchasing MOH. Many players only buying MOH, just to be in the beta.

But like I said, I actually trust your word than anything I read on the beta forums. So I'm relieved to know it's just part of the beta.

What's interesting is, some are claiming the whole browser launch is for beta only, but I got the impression the way it was designed it's going to be in the final game. That doesn't bother me as long as you can adjust settings before getting into a game.

I'm actually more excited to try this new The Witcher 2 update which does an overhaul on combat and offers some much needed tutorials. At least for me, as I'm playing with a 360 pad and was just getting my ass handed to me when having to go up against a group of monsters. It was so frustrating that I put the game away. Now that this update is out, it'll be interesting to see the differences.

I agree actually, with all of that.

We're in SWTOR and I actually thuroughly enjoy it and agree 100% with the limited release...Actually...As anyone that's actually played the game, would as well but, that aside...Beta is and has always been a privileged practice.

Only in the last year or two have you actually seen Betas become public...BFBC2's beta was a nightmare...The game you play now, does NOT even compare to the game we beta'd...Same goes for CODBO...

The issue you have with BF3 is server based...They're not on an oracle backbone anymore with a unix header...It's now 100% Nginx...And that's going to have some release issues.

I've been told there will be a different setup profile come release because, quite frankly...That was the only complaint I had.

They're still tweaking the frostbyte engine as you can see and there are a lot of other kinks to work out.

What you're doing when you change your profile is...You're actually logging into their servers...Changing your information...and then it's going live on your PC...Which is why it currently is setup that way.

If it still didn't change, I'd flag it as an annoyance but, in no way/shape/form is that going to deter me from enjoying the BF3 experience...It's a setback not a game-changer.

I understand that most of you "don't like it" but, considering within 10 years you're not going to have a desktop anymore, this is truly the start of server-side dominance and if there are some errors, there are some errors.

Like I said, a bump in the road is far from a roadblock and I don't think it should be treated as a roadblock even if it doesn't get dealt with immediately (again, I was assured it would be).

8 updates, huh? This I did not know. I haven't been able to log on for the last 24hrs. because of work.

To be clear, I think it's a super polished beta. My main issue was, testers were saying that Dice guys were saying on the Battlelog forums that only being able to set you options in game was a design choice and going into the final build.

This has been my only issue. If it's not true, then it's not a design issue but a miscommunication. And that's groovy.

That was really my only issue. That, and that I could barely get into a game when it was still closed for us MOH purchasers. Which after the disappointment that was MOH, was the only thing of value I was looking forward to from that purchase. And for the life of me, could only get into a couple matches. So, therein lies my frustration. Not being able to get into a match while it was still closed, and the settings issue.

But if the settings issue is a temp beta thing, then everything is cool for me.

I hadn't played Battlefield since Battlefield 2 and didn't get into BFBC2 until about a year ago when most of the kinks were worked out. So I had no idea the beta back then was that bad, and this one is much better.

I totally understand where your coming from, the updates have been server side and battlelog. So this didn't require you to DL anything.

I bought 2 copy's of MOH, All registered on OCT 12th 2010 and i didn't receive any keys. waited in EA support chats for hours no luck, lucky someone on OCN had a spare and gave it too me.

I'm sorry if i sound like a hole, i just have small patience lately for all the stupid comments and opinions about a beta version having bugs. To many people expectations where way to high!

The funny thing, most of the people saying they cancel there pre order didn't.. and most people who say there not buying are going to buy it. There just crying because they didn't get there way. I mean the world is not burger king, and you cant have it your way.

Technology and the way things are being done are changing fast... if you can not deal with it, then this hobby isn't for you.

Please, i hope no one is taking this as a personal attack. I'm not singling anybody out.
