NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 256

Hello Everyone..

I had a chance to run 3dmark vantage test today and this is the result. Is everything oke ?

33njey9.jpg

Today i was testing it in Rift and i had a feeling like it was stuttering a little then i get annoyed.. I checked temperature it was around 75. I restarted pc a few times but it didnt help stuttering was there. I was also having an ssd problem (1 minute freeze black screen and random bsod) then i updated firmware, made a clean install of drivers and re-connected every cable in the pc and monitor. No problem for 6-7 hours so far. It looks like stuttering is gone but i just cant be sure about it. This is a new build and having a few problems made me a little upset tbh..

How can i be sure that everything is oke ? 3d mark vantage score is there but i am not sure if it is good enough or not.

I tested my system in world of warcraft in a crowded area and fps was around 30-40 and in a raid with lots of aoe and spell visual effects it goes down to 25. Some people say they always have 60 fps in this games but i dont and we pretty much have same system so whats wrong here ?

Should i change this card with others ? Here are options. They got zotac 590/580/580 amp and MSI N580GTX Twin Frozr II/OC.

What games do you prefer to test my card ? I want to be sure that everything is good about it before 7 day return policy runs out and i got 2 days more for that so i need your help here..

Thank you..
Yay New Pc ^^

Thanks for the advice Tept. Unfortunately when I changed the settings you suggested they had no effect on my stuttering.

@ Simirath. For me I see the stuttering most in Witcher 2 with ultra settings and uber sampling enabled. I like to test in the new arena mode, in the very beginning, in the room right before you go out to fight. I look at the light canister on the wall and then pan around left and right at different speeds. The stuttering is very noticeable cause the light canister on the wall jumps around everywhere with FPS @ 55. (pretty much the whole environment jumps and very jittery when moving slowly, but the light canister is more noticable) Now when I go back and decrease the graphics settings so the FPS stay locked at 60fps and pan around looking at the light canister, the light just floats seamlessly across my screen.

List of most of interventions Ive tried to fix stuttering- nothing worked
- installed each previous driver for the 590, even the old one archived ones
- stress and tested each component via 3dMark. Everything scored above recommended score
- attempted Tept's setting
- disabled SLI to run only one GPU to rule out SLI microstutter
- tested multiple games at different settings. All same effect. No stutter at 60fps. 59 & less= entire screen stutter.

Samirath do you have same effect as me where the stuttering is gone with framerate @ 60fps but returns when in high 50s?

I'm pulling my hair out here. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Honestly that's your problem. Stuttering is FPS changes. Ubersampling causes drastic fps changes. Disable ubersampling, leave everything else at ultra, and be happy.

If you can see a difference, it's either mental or you're not playing the game.

ETA; It also sounds like you have vsync on. Disable the crap out of that. It's known to cut GPU usage drastically.

Unfortunately the stuttering does not only happen in Witcher 2. It happens in every game where the framerate falls below 60fps (Crysis 2 & Metro 2033). When playing Witcher 2 with uber sampling off my framerate goes to 120fps using SLI and my framerate is locked at 60fps and everything is perfect. But I should be able to run it fine with uber on that's why I bought the 590. Now with ubersampling off and SLI disabled from my 590 then my framerate is at @56fps and again I have the stuttering.

And it's not my imagination. Even my 9 y/o son tells me to put the game back the other way because it's to shaky. It's extremely noticeable when the framerate is smooth at 60, then it hits the 50s mark and everything starts shaking during movement.

And my monitor is 60Hz so if I turn off Vsync most games are way above 60fps and the screen tearing is horrible.

Thanks for reply.

I am confused by the bolded part. Why would you ever do this? The closest to that I've come is folding on one GPU and browsing the net on the other. Is there a reason you need to run the card at half capacity?

Sorry if i wasn't very clear. What I mean is that the image quality isn't affected overmuch by ubersampling. Not the shaking. Shaking is most definitely noticeable tongue.gif

Any game with the shaking, disable vsync. It's 100% useless at that point (below 60) and will only handicap your card.

nVIDIA drivers have a problem where vsync enabled seems to chop off about 30% of your power. This is why most of us only run it on games where the tearing is really bad. I have a 60Hz monitor as well and not a single new (post 2009) game I have has vsync enabled for this reason alone.

The only other thing I can think of is a fresh install of windows and overclocking your CPU. Do you select the "Perform Clean Install" box when installing the nvidia drivers?

I disabled SLI on the 590 to rule out microstutter between the two GPUs as the cause of my stuttering issue.

The reason I use Vsync is with it on these GPU intense games (maxed settings) i sit about 55-60fps with stutter below 60. With Vsync off I get framerates above 60 and then comes the screen tearing, and it's bad. I'm screwed both ways.

I do select clean install when installing drivers. I haven't tried a fresh install of windows yet. I will try that tomorrow after I get off work. I work the night shift. I have my i5 OC already. Could my HDD be a possible cause?

Yeah vsync is definitely your problem. Like I said, it's a known issue. Not much you can do but wait and hope nvidia fixes it. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Well that makes sense. It looks like the frames are not in coordination with my display when framerate is below 60. So I don't have a bad GPU? If it's the drivers why arent more people complaining about this issue? Because from my viewpoint it looks pretty bad and ruins the immersive gameplay. Thanks for your help.

It's just something we live with. I get immersed easily so I don't notive minor tearing. I only really notice it when there is apparent ghosting or horizontal lines of distortion
