Are they sending you a new mother board replacement with another X58? If they do and your going Sandy Bridge will you be selling it?
Going to clarify what happened b/c I've gotten a few inquires about this.
Basically, my X58 I've had for...Since release day...Serial #30...It's the E770, so the moffset PCI power adapter is at the bottom.
On THIS motherboard it was always a requirement to have the molex in there because there were some power issues w/the top slot getting enough juice...So, IMHO there's a bad solder in there somewhere...It happens, no big deal.
I had 3x 480 samples some time ago...Every year I allow our interns to take home their work PC, it's their bonus...So, my work PC at the time (About 2 weeks before the 580's were released) had 3x 480's in TRI-SLI on a 980x...
Within a week from it being home, all 3 cards fried out at the same time...When I called EVGA they covered all 3 but, I was...miffed...so, I ended up swapping to a 580...Then I eventually added another...
I had talked to EVGA @ the board and they had said it wasn't possible, they had my back...Jacob said to keep going and if it was an issue and actually the board we'd deal w/it.
Well, both of those 580's mysteriously burnt out before I bought my original 590...Which, my personal 590 was #12...And I received it the morning of release.
When that Tropical Storm hit, the 590 surged out...There's absolutely no argument that was a pure 100% surge, nothing I can/could do to prevent it...So, that was an instant RMA...No questions asked...//EVERYTHING// else survived EXCEPT for that card.
I've had this new card for @3 weeks...Turned on my PC on Wednesday and it sparked out at the coupling...
At this point, it's my belief that the moffset is simply applying too much power to the rails and when there's a dual demand from the rails and the slot itself, it just fries out...
It would explain every issue I've had.
To be 100% honest, I don't need a 980x at home...I also have a sample 950...So, what I think I'm going to do is RMA the board, ARMA it for an advanced, sell the new board/cpu/ram...Take the 980x back to the office and call it a day.
I'm "in line" for a 2700k and truth be told, I was waiting for it to do this because I had my suspicions but, this whole situation just forced my hand a little sooner.
TLDR: Motherboard is frying my crap so it's getting replaced.
1 thing I would like to note is EVGA's customer service...I really need to give them props...

I'm definitely getting that new Asus 27" 120hz with lightboost and HDMI 1.4a
Especially after seeing a 3D demo of Uncharted 3 on a RealD movie theater projection system. It was really impressive.
I chose this monitor...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236104
I chose it for a couple of reasons...1 being that I have a surround stand w/max 24" but, also because MOST users off of the egg have basically stated how close to truecolor the monitor actually is...2ms response time...120hz...and it was offered at a special price (basically half off) so, I snagged one.
I'm likely going to be paying this card off till I turn to dust but, at least, like I said, I won't be frying my cards anymore.
