Hi GTX 590 owners, I just finished building my GTX 590 Quad SLI BF3 rig with these specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K @ 4.6Ghz (40C idle / 70C load)
GPU: Asus GTX 590 Quad SLI w/ 285.62 Drivers STOCK (no over-clocking whatsoever) (28C idle / 50C load)
Mobo: Asus P8P67 Pro
Mem: Corsair Dominator 8GB
OS: Windows 7 Pro
Build Log - http://hardforum.com...d.php?t=1646299

BF3 is perfectly smooth in campaign mode @ 2560x1600 / Ultra Settings. It's also butter smooth at ANY lower resolution.

BUT...

BF3 is not playable in 64/64 multiplayer in Ultra Settings preset on ANY map at 2560x1600. None. There's no network lag or anything like that. The four GTX 590 GPUs just struggle to render those frames at 2560x1600 on any multiplayer server with more than 50 players. When the game is "struggling" to render frames, I too am getting the "green flash". When I log the GPU utilization in MSI Afterburner, all four GPUs are averaging at near 95% - 100% utilization.

The only way I'm able to play it at 2560x1600 on the "Ultra Settings" pre-set, is if I switch to "Custom", and then crank down the deferred antialiasing down to 2x instead of the 4x. 4x will kill at 2560x1600 even with the second most powerful Quad SLI setup. Even at 2x, it's only playable 90% of the time when you're not in a "dense" firefight.

The only way to play 2560x1600 at Ultra Settings is if you completely turn off "deferred antialiasing". Then it's constantly at 60FPS (0 frame drop) in any multiplayer situation. But this SUCKS - how can GTX 590 QUAD SLI not handle deferred antialiasing for BF3 at 2560x1600 in a 64/64 person server with Ultra settings?

This leads me to two questions:
1) Am I doing anything wrong? If GTX 590 Quad SLI should run BF3 @ 2560x1600 butter smooth in Ultra Setting in a full 64/64 multiplayer server, then I'm all ears. Tell me what I should do to fix this.
2) If GTX 590 Quad SLI's do in fact struggle to run BF3 in Ultra Settings @ 2560x1600 in 64/64 multiplayer mode, then what SLI cards should I have gotten instead?

Lastly, I'd like to know if anyone has been able to keep BF3 above 60FPS (constant) @ 2560x1600 Ultra Preset in 64/64 Multiplayer. If so, I'd LOVE to know what you're running.

Your VRAM is choking...At that resulotion if you want better results, trade the 2 590's in for 3x580 3gb's.

Does anybody have a HydroCopper that they have taken off and would be willing to sell? EVGA won't sell me one and milling a block to fit the new VRMs ended up close to $250.

Koolance makes one that fits BUT appears to have ZERO cooling on the inductors which is both idiotic and unacceptable. I imagine it went something like this:
Quote:
"Nvidia has redesigned the 590 with taller inductors and more direct cooling for the inductors since they were getting too hot. Our blocks don't fit any more."

"If we designed them around the new inductors what would we have to do? What would users of the old card have to do?"

"We'd simply need to mill out about 1/3mm more in the inductor area. Users of old cards could just place pink (1.0mm) thermal pads there and still have good contact. What should we do?"

"Remove all cooling for the inductors and flip the water channeling on the interior of the card. This is clearly the best course of action."

Result:
332

I has the angers. And I kind of want a more conservative design like the HydroCopper or EK blocks. The MCP-35X has enough power for those blocks, 3 rads, and a Rasa block. I shot off an e-mail to EK asking if they had any measurements from their 590 block available or if they could confirm fitment with the taller inductors and have yet to hear back.

Oh, and then my mom backed into my car. Maybe I'll try to be an opportunist and get this bumper. I have a white four-door 330xi. It's been a bad day I'm going to start drinking now.

Awe that stinks. I got 590 Quad SLI *because* I wanted to game at 2560x1600 MAXED. You'd think load balancing between 4 GPUs and 4 x 1.5GB VRAMs would decrease the VRAM fill rate (and keep it steadily below the 1.5GB ceiling).

I mean I understand that each GPU only has 1.5GB to work with, but this is exactly why spreading the rendering load over 4 nodes ought to keep it from going over 1.5GB VRAM.

I hope this is the case because then it can be optimized by software if the load balancing algorithm is indeed that inefficient.

In SLI and CrossFire VRAM is mirrored, not shared. Each GPU stores the same information as all the other GPUs so you have 1.5GB VRAM effective total.

The $30-40 guy was going to do the work on company machines at severely reduced cost and mark it as something he had done for himself. He was gone when I showed up, so rather than having me leave my number they just got the VP of the company to deal with it and, of course, he wanted to do everything through the company itself. If I show up againand ask for the other guy after the VP referred me to another shop (which was cheaper, but wanted $130 just to set up the machinery since he only had CNC) because it was too expensive. Since that guy basically offered to cheat the company to help me out, I don't want to risk him getting in trouble.
