NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 311

Just stopped by to say hai, and happy Thanksgiving my ex-bros.

Just read last few posts:

VRAM is not 100% based on resolution. However, screen monitor size makes no difference. In actuality though, image quality can look crappier on larger monitors due to PPI. Stretching out a 640x480 image video to full screen on a 1920x1080 is very similar to a 1920x1080 image to a 40"+ monitor / TV.

Other things to consider: Brute Force AA works by increase the image size by 2x,4x,8x etc, then sampling it to fit your original resolution. Done all in video memory. AA is the biggest VRAM using component after Textures. After that its SHADRES. Shadow Resolution... the only game I know that points out the Megapixel quality of its in-game shadows is Metro2033. Go figure its also one of the hardest games on GPUs.

AA Evolution:
SuperSampling / Full-Scene AA -> MultiSampling AA -> Newer ones like CQ / EQ / MsAAA / FXAA

BF3 Multiplayer doesn't seem to be fully optimized. Its not entirely GPU or even drivers, or even CPU bottlenecks. I anticipate that lowering the graphics a little will increase playability a ton. Multiplayer has always been harder to run that singleplayer, but we haven't ever gotten definitive answers why, but I believe there is a bottleneck in software / thread optimization.

The Green flicker is from the game. Both AMD and nVidia guys have it biggrin.gif

Alternatively, consider lowering Post Processing or Deferred AA. They increase smooth lines from AA maybe another 10%, but cost easily 20-30% of FPS. Potentially even more depending on moving people and tanks. Being that Textures is a HUGE percentage of VRAM used, I would begin tweaking there. Move on then to sacrificing AA to 2x, and turn off any post / deferred processing with AA. Then go down to medium shadows. Give another try. This will cut image quality of course, but it takes it away from things you aren't hugely focused on at any one time.

Quad-SLI GPU rendering is usually crippled. The reason for that is that there is a performance focus usually on no more than Tri-SLI. Simple reason is there are not many customers. Unfortunately, the 590 is watered down 580 GPUs, so when the performance is weakend to 75% of what is physically these slower GPUs have to do more work, than if it was optimized to distribute workload evenly among the 4 GPUs. Something that helps with is changing the maximum number of frames to render to 4,5 up to 8. Test what works better. This can be done in drivers, and always try and use the latest drivers with the latest games too.

i am extremely happy with mine as it suited my purpose, single card that carries dual GPU, triple screen capable, and definitely powerful. while it definitely cannot compare with two GTX580 performance, but it consumes & generate less power & heat.

There is, without even the slightest doubt, "The Best GTX590." It's the one whose company has the balls to offer a Lifetime Warranty. There is only one.

Of course.

My 590 will be back running soon, and I'm really glad for it. I figured I could scrape by on an HD 6870 for a while since my main rig is down, but its just too slow after using a 590. I don't WANT to deal with 50fps in a DX10 game that barely stressed one core on my beast biggrin.gif

Its leak testing right now! Here is a shot of the tubing mock-up and what it will look like when its done.
