This is on the earlier cards, the later ones seem to be more capable.

Is it on air?
If so, what temps are you getting and most importantly how did the OC affect your temps in comparison to running it at stock?

After a year of running the card stock I pretty much decided to give the OC a shot aswell.
I'm aiming for a ~20% overclock so around -/+ 730 MHz, will check the 590 flashing thread later and try some BIOSes out.

Im on stock air cooler, but I reckon the cooling will be enough seeing how my GPUs only run between 72°C and 80°C at around 70% fan speed while gaming.

On another note @Masked:
How can I check what Revision my card is? I realize that you said the vast majority is on Rev2 cards but I got mine pretty much at launch so would be cool if there'd be a way to check.

if rev. 2.0 is that with different VRMs, then i have both cards rev. 1.0. and highest benched clock was 800@1.05v (it can be checked in green vs. red thread) on 280.19 drivers, that as i believe are the latest voltage unlocked drivers.
even on "burning" drivers, ones that didnt trottled the card in 3DMark11, i could succesfully bench only at 790@1.05v

Forgot to post my pic way back when lol.

450

Also, my card is from around launch day. I'm assuming I can flash the bios w/o voiding warranty?

I was actually responding to the bold text below.
With up to date drivers which 99% of us have access to and need to run due to game optimizations, I don't think 850mhz is realistically achievable.
Not currently, no.

The driver lock alone won't let you get above 800mhz, anyway...At least that was true the last time we tried.

So, as of today, 850mhz is not achievable...unless you unlock the card and re-write the drivers.

It is on the back of the card located just near the middle screw...

You wouldn't know which revision you have/had unless the serial number says B or Revision 2.

And having the card at 1.05v was bad ~ It means your secondary core was at 1.07 ~ So you could have actually hard-capped the card, yourself.

When I set my settings to LOW and play the game in 3D, the performance is very very awful. I am usually at 60 fps but it drops to 40 fps.

I truly believe that Bf3 needs a better SLI (590) profile and updated drivers.

I can play the game in 2d with ULTRA settings averaging 60 or 70 fps

I turn everything off and set the game at LOW and in 3D i get 40-50 average

Posting your serial # is a very bad idea -- I'd edit that were I you.

And you actually have a vanilla...Like I said, there are very few of these out there...Especially those that haven't been RMA'd yet.

500 = Rev 1
501 = Rev 1(This is when they changed "lanes")
502 = Rev 2. (Started the 2nd run - Made a cap swap)
502b = Rev 2. (2nd run, made the VRM change and pathways)

Actually -- I think it went from 500 to 502...Because 500 was pre-order and 501 was sample stock...502 was standard and 502b happened very shortly after standard.

TLDR; I actually don't have an answer for the order they were released in...It's entirely possible they went 500, 501, 502b...

I do know they tend to label sample stock and pre-order stock separately from retail...

I see, so I guess I'm pretty much bound to higher risks when OCing my card since I have the first revision..

No, the limits never changed.

If you go beyond 1.05v on any 590, you're going to blow the VRM's out...There's no stopping that.

If you're better off or not in terms of performance, as always, is luck of the draw.

I personally like my 590, its the first version (500)..... overclocks well, temps are low, accepted the modded bios without a problem.
(Just make sure your case supplies cool air and vacates both ends of the card quickly)
