NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 368

This is a quote from Masked on the last page.

"I don't see the need to get a new card with Kepler...Maybe after...But, there's no need with the current market, truth be told."

Judging by current rumours floating around - no.
The card he is talking about is the mid-range (not high-end) GK104 Kepler which is supposedly faster than the HD 7970.

As for how the 7970 compares to the GTX 590 - stock for stock, the GTX590 is around 20-25% faster.
If you OC the 7970 to around ~1200 MHz they will perform equally. Most 7970's can do 1200-1300MHz.
I dont know how it compares to a overclocked 590 though.

Though, Im almost inclined to say that from todays standpoint, a HD 7970 would be a smarter choice when looking at all the driver limitations that the GTX 590 has gone through. The 7970 also has twice the amount of usable VRAM.

Do you think it is convenient to sell the GTX 590s now to get the new ones? I have two GTX 590s watercooled
Please let me know and thanks for everything

I'd like to know that too.
If it truly turns out that GK104 is going to be faster than the 7970 (which would put it around 590 level) for a 300-350$ price point, it will make the GTX 590 obsolete and literally CRIPPLE its resell value.
It may be wise to get rid of the 590 as fast as possible IF the rumours turn out to be true, but theres too little evidence yet.
Some insight from insiders that know more would be nice thumb.gif even if its just a small hint biggrin.gif

Honestly if there is a new kepler that costs around 350 US dollars that will outperform 590 I would be so angry.

I doubt that something like that would happen but hey, this is business world.

Ati HD 7970 seems a smart buy as well since it is a single GPU but i still prefer the 25% performance in stock speeds.

I had this whole thing typed out and then...I said screw it.

You know what I'm going to say, all of you do.

I'll do a list of the facts of the 590 pros and cons...Which, you all know what's on there.

I'm not "blowing" another NDA this week after 5entinel already started a fun little brood-war between my office and Blizzard...Gotta love some of the mods here.

Kepler is coming out soon, make up your own minds.

I will say, if nothing currently challenges your card on this market...Why pay more to switch to something in which the gap is even greater?

I have an arsenal of 3D movies in my collection. Both on blu-ray, and in digital form for my EVO 3D. And yes, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is one of them.

I would eventually like to get into the 3D gaming world in the next couple of months, so I'll have to research what's out there that appeals to me. I'll take your word that the only issue with the 3DVision will be with the fps on games. But honestly, since I don't have any 3D games as of yet, I suppose I shouldn't concern myself until I cross that bridge.

Well said Masked, i will rather wait another two years to change them, after all i just spent $246 dollars to water cool my cards so that would frustrate me a little bit....

But anyhow thanks for the insight Masked, just here with you, fellow overclockers, can one really find answers to tough questions about the 590

Kudos

The 590 will ALWAYS have issues unless Nvidia has a epiphany...I don't see them having an epiphany...ANYTIME soon.

So, essentially we're left with that you've got, right now.

Kepler will come close, I can't say anything more...If you'd like to ditch the issues of SLI etc, power to you...If not, don't.

Your resale value will drop, regardless as it always does -- These are things you guys know.

It's up to you how you want to tackle those issues, not for me to tell you how...

Your card is more than capable of handling anything currently on the market and will be capable of handling anything in the future.

When/if it doesn't, use it as your excuse then to bump up but -- It's going to be a while thumb.gif

Masked thank you for the tips. you are spot on thats for sure.

I want to ask you one question though since it seems you know your stuff.

Did you experience Directx 11.1?

Some people says its just software and others say you need new hardware/

Do we really need new hardware for Dx11.1? if yes is it something great that we should think about?

This is all the more reason why I'd be content with the 590 I have now, rather than chase waterfalls. After all, if what you say is true about the resale value of this GPU, then it's just an incentive for me to pick up one or two more 590's to add to my collection. And chances are, those cards combined will/might out perform the latest and greatest card that everyone is chasing after that potentially might not even perform as good or better, or have any significant substance.

...That's just my worthless two cents.

You cannot tri-sli 590s -- You can only SLI two 590's for a total of 4 GPU's.
