After having a VERY long discussion with someone @XFX I gotta say I disagree with the theory of "throttling" on the 590.

Benchmarks aren't going to do much in terms of scaling b/c SLI hasn't been perfected yet with these cards...it's @ maybe 40% atm which, most of you see for yourselves. I'm seeing it right now @work with CS5, some high-end flash apps are making this driver "issue" very poignant but, throttling? No.

It's going to take some time for the drivers to mature but, that doesn't mean these cards are throttling in any way/shape/form UNTIL the drivers mature and we see that issue, repeatedly...That's been true of any release, even the 6990's.

That being said, gonna start benching my work PC when I get it tweaked again and the home PC will shortly follow.

Food Poisoning sucks balls.
I don't think we will EVER have concrete proof of throttling unless Nvidia comes out and says it themselves. Thus there will always be room for people like yourself to blame SLI, drivers, benchmark compat, etc, etc.

The best we are going to get are reports from users and posted testing results -- and from that people are going to draw their own conclusions. There are already some benchmarking results in this thread that imply throttling.

People are going to be convinced with different levels of evidence so while you may not be believe the card is throttling -- just because SOME people do... does not necessarily make them incorrect.

Common... drivers? When i had the Asus on my bench i had a really good performance with the cd drivers ... then the second set of drivers came and i saw the throttle down of the card ...

Testing my POV TGT Ultra Charged ( what a name for such weak performance ), with the latest i got erratic performance ... i mean ...

The problem are the drivers indeed ... that are taking 30% or more of your cards performance

CS5 doesn't support SLI per-say but, when I have 3 instances open on 3 different screens, it's blatantly obvious the work isn't being split.

1st screen I'm doing Alienware's new front page graphic, 2nd screen I'm doing the new rigs and the 3rd screen I'm doing some personal tweeks.

All are CLEARLY relying on GPU1 with it's workload @60% and GPU2 @1% constant.

I have thousands of instances of hard SLI cards, I.E. dual 580's or 6970's splitting the workload but, this card is clearly relying on 1 GPU.

I'm simply saying, coming from an office with practically every flavor of card...and having tested as many as we have...

I do not, what-so-ever see ANY evidence of throttling...I do see very poor driver performance...Just as I did with the initial release of the 6990's.

My home PC is at @850mhz and I see clear evidence of very poor scaling and poor drivers...On my attempt to "fix" my own drivers, I feel as if I pushed the card too much so, I decided not to play with them until I had some solid information.

Poor drivers is absolutely the cause of the issue in my opinion and it's something that is going to take time...Until then, we will see performance degrade because the card simply can't equate performance =/= speed, etc...Same exact thing with the 6990 on release...and the 295's.

@Pedro ~ Was in the hospital with food poisoning so bad my muscles stopped allowing me to throw up ~ Still recovering...Will have some form of benches up by Monday!

And here is the graphs for testing in Vantage while it is clocked at 650 mhz.

Notice the two first tests, all the dipping and what have you... thats throttling.... The drops to 0 are loading screens or cpu tests.... the bunch at the end are quick features tests, so ignore them. The first two blocks is what to look at.
I think that's with the extreme preset right?

If not can you try the same tests with the extreme preset to rule out a possible CPU bottleneck

Cards arrive in 3 hours. Cards are here. Afraid to open them...

Extra radiator, some water cooling stuff, and fittings all arrive tomorrow. I should be benching by tomorrow night, or Saturday. All depending on how much cable management/loop redesigning I do.

Really think I should have added a second D5 pump.

I strangely don't want to go through with all of this work...

i tested out mafia 2 benchmark and with physx i was barely able to edge out 35fps. tested out the metro 2033 demo and noticed minimum fps as low as 25-27fps with the benchmark. DOF was off. the card isn't as powerful as I thought it would be.

honestly it feels like it's only running on one gpu. i downloaded the latest sli patch but it said that I was already up to date.

Again, it took the 6990, 2.5 months to be where it's currently at...Yet, we expect Nvidia to be there over-night.

There are obviously some driver issues that still need to be worked out...Not something that's just going to happen like Dorothy clicking her damned heels...
you do know it really hasn't been 2.5 months correct? i'm not saying there aren't driver issues but i was more curious if i was not doing something correctly by checking an sli box or something.

If I am not mistaken didn't they use the 267.85 drivers?

Could give them a try. I have noticed about 10~15% performance lost on these new 270 drivers.

I know everyone has jumped on the GTX 590 is fail bandwagon, but watch this regardless. Its still soo funny.

Hitler Disappointed with GTX 590
