The 690 is 1000USD, and is said to be 90-100% of 680 SLI.
Wouldn't the 590 be justified if considering the price alone?
I like to think of the situation as such. I'm pissed that I can't clock to 800+ on the card, but it performs at it's price range. If it did clock to 800+ with the 'famed' voltage tweak... it would have been a marvel, and no one would have opened their mouths against the 590.

Like I said, from the vendor standpoint, this card was an incredible success. -- The 590 was advertised as 2x cherry picked GTX 580's with the best hardware to date on any PCB...Which, it is actually factual however, the performance was equivalent to 2x570's that's absolutely correct.

The difference with the 590, is how it was marketed...And on it's release, it was more/less meant to rival the price of the 6990's.

Now in terms of real life performance, it actually beats the 6990, even with the OCP etc...Stock for stock.

I'm not necessarilly upset with performance, my beef is very personal in regards to the fact that, many of the things we've asked for, even vendors...Were ready months and months ago, only to be rolled out with the 680's.

Now, is the 690 2x680s? You know I can't answer that tongue.gif

Look at it from this perspective...Your 590's are about 1x680 (Let's be very real about that, especially with soft OC's) so, you essentially, right now, have a 680. (I mean no offense but, you guys know I'm a realist)

So, you already have a card capable of playing every single game on the market, well...Witcher 2, Borderlands 2, D3, GW2, SWTOR...(Notice some are yet to be released) so, your performance is still there and it will be until September.

Is it worth the upgrade from THAT standpoint? IMHO, no...I say no because you already have the performance of 1 680 and that's more than enough for the upcoming lineup.

Is the 690 worth it if you have the cash? Sure...You have my blessing, I'll be stocking it, as I mentioned, fire away...But, if you play the games above...I'd wait.

I am really happy with my 590. Never considered a 6xx. Barely considering a 7xx, especially with the lineup of games this year, and maybe next (I'm sure the 590 can manage 60fps in Crysis 3 at 1080).

At the end of the day, it's the user's needs and wants. You always hit the dot on the general population of gamers, it then allows those who are nit-picky to really develop some sort of idea on pulling triggers on specific hardwares.

Thanks for your input Masked. thumb.gif

@ masked

Do you know if there will be games in 2013 that will challange BF3 and will require more beef?

The games you mentioned are all due this year and 590 will handle them easily.

I don't have an office that beta tests, anymore and unfortunately, I don't currently have the time with the amount of orders I have, plus the fact that I'm still a 1 man show so, I don't have an answer.

Bioshock Infinite will be hardcore but, they've done a great job so, it won't be that taxing...Metro LL will be the new standard for benching ~ I think that will be taxing...Prey 2 is really sexy...Prototype 2 was really cool...Devils Third...Risen 2...D3...

Of everything that's being released, I think Metro LL will become your gold standard and will that tax the 590? ~ More than likely...

From my personal perspective, as a hardcore MMO'er ~ Tri-Sli is going to last me at least a year...I'm still waiting on my custom blocks so, you'll get to see those babies when I get down to the nitty gritty.

I have to admit that at this point, I'm very biased because I only MMO on the PC, anymore...It's so much easier to pick up a controller and play a console game vs. being at the PC, for me.

In regards to the games above, practically every single game I mentioned is on the PS3 where, I'll almost be exclusively playing it...Granted, there are 1 or 2, I only want to play on the PC...In terms of my time/ease and enjoyment, I'd rather play them on a console.

Yeah, Metro LL will be the one. Probably even more than Crysis 3.

I'm not even sure two 590's in SLI will be enough for those games with the 1.5gb Vram cap. If the 590's were 2gb Vram per GPU like the 690's, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. But I doubt if I'll be upgrading just for that game.

I've also gotten so sucked into SWTOR, that it's been mostly all I've been playing. Considering I can get 60fps avg. with everything turned up except shadows on my G73 notebook, upgrading my desktop anytime soon on GPU's seems to be excessive.

@iARDAS:

Really good points about 3D gaming too. Furthur emphasizes why these aren't worth the upgrade. If I somehow end up on 3 monitors in surround and am limited by my 590's, I'll consider it then. But for now I'm way more focused on getting my CPU and Mobo upgraded.

This is a good conversation though. It helps kill the Hardware jones those 690's give to my admittedly addicted to Hardware self.

Cheers!

Like yourself I am happy with my 2 x 590s. I will skip the 6xx video cards, I'll wait for the 7xx cards to see if they give anything special.

The budget I would have spent on a 690 will go on a monitor upgrade. I've been looking a a decent NEC display for a while now, I'm on a crappy Dell screen right now but thinking that having spent lots of video power its time to spend some on quality the image.

Like I said about the 690...~ It's a good card and a great card but, necessary for future gaming? I don't think so.

There are also limitations on the OC already in place + the same throttling technology that exists on the 680's.

Personally, as a dual PCB card on air, I don't see it being as "successful" as the 590 was originally without all the driver/ocp broohah.

Whether is getting hot here in Turkey

My 590 would top around 84 degrees at 80-85%fan speed

Now i can only keep 84 degrees with 95% fan speed

Any suggestions?

Should i be adding more side fans to my case?

Should i go with water cooling?

How much would it cost me to water cool my system? And will the watercooling system i get will only be compatible with 590?

I will be in USA on mid june so i might grab a watercooling kit but i am not sure/.

hey guys, I'm just wondering if anyone has a core that sits 30 degrees over the other?

I'm currently running quad SLI with 2 590s, I just played a round of bf3 (ultra settings ect ect) and all the cores bar 1 sat around 47, while one core sat at 70??
its weird though because at idle this still happens, currently if I look at my temps I read 66 42 38 41.
why is one way hotter than the others at all times?

If you're watercooling, then it sounds like a stray bubble. If you're running them on air, I haven't a clue. But, if on air, swap them around and see what happens.
