could be a copyright built into the asus bios ..... worth a try as asus is famous for doing this when flashing to there bios. i believe there are posts on this thread previously and will show u how to disable it, it is easy just cant remember the exact command off the top of my head.
you´re probably right, its strange that CapitanPelusas cannot flash any other bios, perhaps they do the copyright stuff to all refurbished ones, mine has the same bios as his but its not refurbished, Monday ill see if i´m in the same boat !
lets find out about that command to disable the copyright! biggrin.gif
Thank you mywifeispist about the hint! thumb.gif

here is a link http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119955
scroll down and just above step 6 is the command to disable a write protect on the gpu bios, use the latest NVflash for windows and run CMD as admin..... this should help as it worked for me in the past.

Erm.. this is the usual Write-Protect off command used whenever you flash a bios. This has nothing to do with the problem I experienced. Without using this command I wouldnt even have been able to flash the MARS2 BIOSes into the gtx590.

I WAS able to flash both GPU EEPROMS with the MARS2 bios, however the GPU1's EEPROM never took it well for some reason. Upon reboot the video display from POST to Windows was corrupted and presented incredible ammounts of artifacts. The device wouldnt start in windows and in short, the flash rendered the card unusable.

What was interesting tho was that when i tried to flash it back to stock 590 bios nvlflash reported that the EEPROM of the First GPU was not supported, so it technically soft-bricked the card since i couldnt flash it back, with any bios. I was able to find a workaround and restore back to 590 stock but for some reason the MARS2 BIOSes posted on techpowerup's bios database do not work on my Rev 42 ASUS gtx590.

Hi!

I have a GTX590 and I installed the latest NVIDIA drivers 306.23 and throws me to the desktop when I'm playing.

What drivers are you using?

Will my GPU problem?

Thanks!
i had a similar issue with one of my 590's so i flashed back to stock bios..... i opened the stock bios in NibiTor and opened the the bios i wanted side by side and copied the settings to a copy of the stock bios and it worked for me. just thought you were having a copy write issue at first. flashing these sometimes comes with risks so good luck to u.

hey guys,

anyone test out the new 306.23 WHQL drivers with your lovely gtx 590s? I have them in quad sli and i find performance has gone down in quit a few games, with peak usage going down a lot. I'm at the 301.24 drivers and although they have some issues, they have worked the best for me.

ps. also reading up on the MARS II bios....interesting! I dont do 3dmark, and with my EVGA bios i can get to 0.988 V @ 710 mhz for most games with no PDL etc downclocking the gpus.

some examples include batman AC - FPS went down about 15%, Deus ex human revolution - was at 80-100% gpu usage, now down to 40-50% and even crashed on me :S

Well ive donated again to the writer of NiBiTor. Its bloody difficult as the Chipin widget on his front page doesn't show up on certain browsers, seems to be ok at work though. I dare say he'd get alot more donations if people could easily do it.

When I get access to the latest version I will see if it reads the Mars bios.
