2560x1440??????????? thats why.... smile.gif 590 with this resolution will be of course much lower..so,well done with your new beast!
Hahaha yeah, 1.5GB was not enough at this res. 590 has the power, but not the memory. 690 will face the same trouble in 6ish months when games use even more vram.

Even at 1080p im getting over 1.5gb of memory usage in both tombraider and bioshock, thats why im going for a titan!
and on top of that my monitor its flawless at 120hz and with the Zero motion blur trick: http://120hz.net/showthread.php?1186-ASUS-VG278H-owners!!!-Zero-motion-blur-setting!-(looks-like-CRT-or-like-480Hz-LCD)
i need a lot of gpu power! biggrin.gif

Dont get me wrong, i believe you! wink.gif
the problem is, AFAIK, all those games at maximum settings consume between 1,5 to 2,9gb of graphics memory (reviews at respectable sites like guru3d and hardocp), when this happens swapping between graphics memory and system memory occurs, then theres stuttering and drop of framerate, now ive seen people with gtx 560 with 1gb of memory having all maxed out and still going over 60fps and people with titans going 65fps!
How can that be!?!?!?!
Well, from my point of view different computers have different driver implementations and sometimes even when you set maximum setting in game the drivers dont allow it for some unknown reason, so you have lower settings in game despite what the game menu says! its hard to tell the difference from ultra settings to high settings but memory wise its a huge difference, sometimes 1gb! And then theres memory leaks in the games coding that doesnt affect everyone...
in my end when i get graphics memory consumption over 1,5gb i get stuttering and have to lower settings, this card has a lot of horse power but it lacks memory, so im moving on!

Cheers

Ed

Vagenrider what cpu/mobo are you running? I noticed that when the gfx memory got high, upping the speed of my RAM helped loads. If you're on a 2011 socket (or even PileDriver) and have some hot hot ram, the vram limit doesn't stutter as much. Granted, system memory is nowhere near the bandwidth of graphics memory but on a quad setup it can get stupidly fast.

i have very simple specs but very thought out settings(personal opinion) i have an 8120 at 4600mhz and a simple GA-990XA-UD3....for ram i have Only 4gb 2x ocz platinum pc3 16000 and 2x kingston hyper x all at 1.7v and 1T 8-8-8-22. Northbridge+hypertransport at 2400mhz

i know very well all what you say OccamRazor and MKHunt you have both right but also its important and helpfull to talk as we do now smile.gif because we learn more!

I was about to press the button on the Titan and stumbled on a 690 for $200 less, all in all added water-blocks and transport fees i get a difference in excess of $150 (the 690 water-block is $40 more expensive that the titan block), now im in a tight spot, i want to max out my monitor at 120hz, (because gaming on my VG278H when FPS range from 100hz to 120hz its superb, like a CRT, you cannot explain it empirically, you have to try it to understand the fluidity) and the 690 IT IS faster than the Titan averaging 20% BUT the Titan IS a single chip and later i could add a second one, with the 690 a second one is diminishing returns.
So, MKhunt, can you do me a BIG favor? As we have similar systems, can you check your average framerates @1080p in crysis 3 ,tombraider and bioshock infinite with one titan? if they are in 100+ area, then i will go for the Titan for sure! biggrin.gif

Thanks in advance

Ed
