NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 80

Hi,

Well last night I found that the OCP is a "moron". I will go with the details to see what I mean:

- Boot up Windows
- Set 723Mhz Core / 1446Mhz Shaders/ 2x1850 Mhz Memory @ 0.963V(at @0.950 drivers crash when 3D vision enabled)
- Enter Metro 2033 (3D Vision on) and played about 1:20 hours.
- Temps are low, maximum was 45 degrees Celsius.
- Drivers crash and restart ( apparently OCP kicks in).
- Set again the voltages/freq to the above mentioned values.
- Enter Metro 2033 , drivers crash in like 10-20 sec. (no matter how many times I try, I get the same result).
- Reboot Windows, set the freq again.
- Enter Metro 2033...I can Play again for like 1-2h.
PS: the values from the overclock I got it from |[H]ard|OCP article.

What I find it strange is the OCP will kick in after a period of time... If anyone can tell me why is that...I would be grateful.

PS: I found out that 705Mhz/1410Mhz/2x1900Mhz @0.963V gives the same performance and greater stability in time.

Hey guys. I have a friend who's thinking of picking up a GTX590.

What would be safe max voltages for him to try? He has a tendency to OC everything and skip stock speeds for anything (if he could OC his keyboard, he would!)

Also, I'm thinking of a brand to best recommend to him. I know everything's reference as of now, however I was thinking more of the warranty and bundle. I haven't been in the Nvidia scene as of late, but I am interested for his sake. I would assume ASUS and EVGA are safe bets?

#1, right now you can't alter your voltages so, there's nothing to OC.

#2, the card is EXTREMELY limited and on a controlled release so, I'd get the first one you could/can get, otherwise, you're not getting one.

There are a "few" vendors with some left but, very very few.

You can't change voltage right now unless you modify the voltage values in the BIOS.

Nvidia said up to 1.05v should be safe, however I don't think you need to go that high for the 20% or so overclock you might get before OCP kicks in. Also EVGA cards seem to have the best warranty.

U can alter the voltages but only though the bios. The NVIDIA driver set ur voltage to the min voltage for 3d clock. I flashed my bios with a min voltage clock of .963 and all is good here.

I've been tweaking in my overclock. I rolled back to 267.85 drivers so I could do some overvolting. In my case anything above 0.930v is causing some throttling, even with a custom fan profile. The highest 3dmark11 score I was able to get was P9551 with 690/1380/3600 and 0.925v.

It theses clocks I appear to be right on the edge of ocp. Anything higher caused a drastic decline in performance. I haven't played around with the memory too much. The stability for me goes away somewhere inbetween 1800 and 1850 MHz.

I think I'll stick with these clocks for a while. Hopefully the upcoming drivers will allow a little overvolting.
