NVIDIA GTX 590 Owners Club - Page 81

Thank you guys for the quick responses. I was worried I would get kicked out for owning a 6990, but I guess that was a silly assumption. tongue.gif

Right, that seems to be the case here as well. There are hardly (if any) 590's available on the local market, and they are way overpriced at the moment. It's a shame you can't OC at the moment, but I'm sure that will be resolved eventually. But I'll be certain to let him know that before he picks one up.

Thanks again! smile.gif

I have 6 PC's here with modified BIOS's and Solo 590s...The issue is, that even if you roll back the drivers and modify the bios, OCP is STILL kicking in and limiting the 2nd core...

So, I wouldn't exactly depend on modified bios...

you guys might get a kick out of this, a broken hearted 6990 owner switched to the 590 because he was having too many issues with his 6990.

At what clocks is it kicking in? and at what voltages too?

What seems to be the average overclock?

Also what are you using to test the overclock? Something like Furmark might be too extreme since it will draw way too much power

Everything is drawing too much power.

I can leave all 6 at 1.00v...The issue comes when core 2 draws more than .95 which is GOING to happen because even @stock the 2nd core is drawing too much power.

The MAJOR issue is, even at stock the OCP is regulating the 2nd core.

That's why there are issues with benching...Even when benching stock, your 2nd core is being limited by 20%ish...

I can do 720 @ .963 no problem In games with a Good performance increase but in benchmarks it seams as the ocp is way more strick and will usually crash the driver. I think they need to iron out there driver a lot better. I'm sure in the coming months it will be great I hope

You can up this as high as you want...The issue is OCP is limiting you from day 1.

Your 2nd core draws more power than the first core and once it hits X it starts to scale down the voltage TO that core.

You're not 100% on both cores at any time...

For example, I'm 90/40 right now...that 40% is due to the voltage being over X...

I can try all of the drivers, same thing happens because OCP has a max regardless of what you OC to...Once you hit that wall, that's it.

The GTX 590's are the same price as the AMD 6990's, fyi. Glad you found the answer you were looking for however.

I found this review: Hardware Heaven GTX 590 Review and I can confirm what they are saying is true. Works very good both in plain 3D and stereo 3D (with 3D vision).

Now something I found out while using 3D Vision and OC-ing:

@ 710Mhz Core /1820-1850Mhz Memory/ @0.963V the drivers crashed.
@ 710Mhz Core /1900Mhz Memory/ @0.963V the drivers WORK flawless.

So it seems the memory freq needs to be increase more than 1850. Hope this helps those who want to overclock more then 710Mhz.

Regards

PS: on 3DMark2011 on Performance profile my card scores at 10260. (Too bad my AMD Phenom can't handle this card to well.....so overall I get around P8000. CPU Upgrade pending). This is about 1000 points higher than 9260 which I get @ stock speeds.

I don't think he's in the US where the pricing is the same
