dragon age 2 has me crashing the card from vram limit. pretty sure the witcher will as well. full out I can't use the card with my monitor. Just not enough vram. not a bad card and drivers will make it better, but the vram will never be going up.

evga gtx 580 3gb($640ish each) or amd 6990($700).

Worried that the GTX 590 SLI isn't really that much more powerful than GTX 580 SLI overclocked like mine. Which really would put it behind GTX 580 Tri-Sli overclocked. Just thinking in terms of the performance I see now vs. the performance I will get.

I can't help but thinking 4 GPUs, with time, maturity in drivers and a slight overclock is the best route. It looks like gaming @ 5760x1080 is fairly limited in performance on all GPUs, and apparently 3GB is over kill for that resolution. Not to mention I can't see myself gaming in all titles on 3 monitors. I think it would be awesome for C&C, Starcraft 2, or Supreme Commander 1&2. Maybe WoW, but thats it.

Jesus, its like living with two people in my head, hearing all the pros and cons over and over and over.
To be quite honest, it's all about what you're looking for.

Considering the room I'm seeing between playing it safe and being stupid; I have no doubt this card will EVENTUALLY be opened up...The question is: when?

If you're looking for performance, the 580's are the way to go...This is a hands down, no bull**** answer.

Considering the scaling possible, I think 2x590's will BARELY beat out a tri-SLI 580 configuration...Right now, they're JUSt under but, I eventually see the 590 coming out ahead.

That being said, if you're looking for a single slot solution, obviously the 590 is your card...

It's all about what YOU as the end user actually want...Performance wise, there's no argument 580's will win but, for the same price, the 590's are the better choice.

It's definitely a tough decision if you're on the fence because 2x590's = 3x580's...

...I'm in beta for the witcher 2 and I don't crash with the 590...DA2 also never crashes...

Wouldn't say it's the vram but, that's just me.

i've seen as high as 1800+vram in da2 from others with 2gb cards. it's the vram. I am also pushing more pixels than you too though and the witcher 2 demo won't have the full force to crash the 590 like the final game.

how do you like the beta?

The beta's amazing but, I also only 1 window it so I can see why you'd have an issue.

NDA is pretty strict on this one so, that's all I can say.

I have other stuff going on so, I hear that.

I don't think their final release will be that taxing but, I could be wrong.

We were tossed directly into the beta so, I've never actually seen the demo TBH...I'll ask for a copy and let you know what I find, though.

I really can't see them requiring that much Vram considering the average consumer...They're very level headed about that.

Haha, I knew MSIalex was holding out on me!

@Congrats Toxor, do you feel like pulling off the heatsink and having some snapshots taken of both the front and the back? It looks reference, but I can't 100% tell. I was wondering if MSI put an extra VRM or two

It is reference design, still good
